Seems like I'm not looking right or this feature is not available on this board? Or maybe it's been disactivated at one time. Normally this is a standard fixture on all forums, sometimes very helpfull to peace-keeping efforts... probably useful to UN Blue Helmets around the planet as well. Not for me, though, but there is a worthy member wishing not to read the unintelligible post of another less-worthy member If it doesn't exist, can it be created? Cheers

I think only M@X can add such a function to the forums. |

If there's someone whose posts you find really annoying you can add them to your friends list then mute them. I did that with someone a while back. I don't really remember if it worked or not but it's worth a shot.

Problem is the forum software is out of date - one thing that bugs me is the search function (for posts / topics etc) is very clunky to use compared with say vBulletin or Xenforo.

sounds like some sort of fascist state when we start talking about 'worthy' and 'less worthy' members. All are worthy because prog is extremely niche and the vast majoroty of the world doesn't give a rats arse about it. I only get worried when people start talking like this.

Anyway, I think an "ignore" function might be useful to block spambots on one's end before they're officially removed by the moderation. |

Just because you listen to prog and post in forums doesn't necessarily make you a nice guy. Over the 20 years of this forum's life, we've had to eject/ban many "less-worthy" members who were systematically attacking others or trolling around. When there were 200 members simultaneously, losing or ignoring a certain member wasn't much of a problem, whether or not he was posting intelligently or not. I can understand that nowadays, when the forum is frequented by only 50 members per day, it might be an issue as to keep them around I can't remember who was the angry member (probably worthy) about being constantly nagged by another member (most likely less-worthy) and got upset about it, so I suggested this option, which I thought (wrongly) existed on PA. Does my choice of word make more sense, now?
Thx for that unprovoked personal attack, which will be reported. Funny that you should mention that "j" word, because a lot of us think the same of you (whether here or on PE). You don't like my reviews (a lot were written quickly in order to fill the then-totally empty DB on the demand of the owners), fine, you might be bothered when I detect your mostly idiotic or thoughtless attitudes (like the A suggestion for PA admission), but the day you will be useful to this site other than the web traffic you create is still rather far away. That must be another one of my "pseudo-elitist stances". .

I have an idea. Let Sean Trane create his own custom prog rock forum and, as an admin on there, he will have the priviledge to set up a fully functional ignore function and ban whoever he likes. :) Problem?

This seems somewhat of a left turn on the original comment. Yep no one is going to disagree that trolling and personal attacks should be treated and dealt with properly. That's about moderating the forum and absolutely fine with me. I don't think though that you were really suggesting that people should self moderate any abuse they receive were you? In otherwords promoting the idea that personal attacks should be tolerated with an 'ignore button' is not a way for a forum to carry on is it?. To me the 'ignore button' would be a good way of filtering out content by posters that is borderline spam. I can think of at least one poster who constantly writes the same stuff albeit with a slightly different choice of words. On and on it goes and I suspect you may have an inkling who that might be (it's not you to be clear!!). Nowadays we stay out of each others way mostly and that works well enough.

I understand. Yes I know. It’s a left turn because I see it clearly as well now. We should probably let it die here and now.

No left turn from me (despite being on the political left). I'm generally inclusive and the ignore function on other fora (that forum in plural in latin) is generally used to allow feuding parts to live on the same space +/- peacefully, as the offended vdoes not see the harasser's output (or offending opinion). It's got its limits though. If someone quotes the ignored person's post, the ignorer will indeed see the ignored 's post. I've never used it anywhere (maybe the thickness of my skin is too important for nasty skeeters bite or stings), and I believe it exists on Prog Ears (at least in its previous incarnation , called PE 2.0 >> we're now on PE3.0) Your reading of my OP was that I meant being exclusive , while my proposal remained inclusive - including keeping the mods' sanity on a safe level. (have you wondered why there are so few candidates as mods on PA? too much sandbox fighting ) .
