From this list: IQ - Forever Live, followed by:
Peter Gabriel Yes - Keys to Ascension; great setlist, but dodgy DVD editing. I could add: It Bites - Thankyou and Goodnight; definitely released in 1990 and probably recorded early 1990 (the tour ran across 1989 and 1990). A great Dunnery-era swansong.

I'm not properly a PT fan, but Coma Divine is a great live

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

For me it's mostly between Fishmans, Swans and Cardiacs here. And I really like that Dead Can Dance. I hope I'm not the only one here to enjoy that Fishmans. I think it's terrific, especially for "Long Season". That is THE standout track from my playlist I made for this for me. Bloody great, I think. I could see some stumbling with the vocals and it likely adds a dimension that I speak some Japanese and perhaps that I worked in Japan in the latter half of the 90s as an English teacher. Not that I ever saw Fishmans in concert.

Not sure, something between Coma Divine, PULSE and Keys to Ascension. I think the 90's were a sweet spot for the classic 70's artists doing live albums. They were usually still in top shape (though sadly often no longer with their classic line-ups), but with better equipment for playing and recording, and more experience and time playing and polishing their songs, resulting in some really great versions of their original classics.

I forgot that I have started a "best of" live list. In the early stage of it but I noticed I had two 90's records on there that I need to mention.

Thanks, John. I also was working on a best, meaning best for me of what I know, list of lives. I kind of gave up on it just because I usually like to do at least 25 acts and just one album per act but with some acts I really wanted multiple albums for a poll. I think I know how I will do it. For many, as is common it would be a dissatisfying. Maybe we already have a great topic on live albums in Top 10s and Lists. I would not wish to limit myself to those in PA. I mean the one I have been most enamoured with of late in this poll is not in PA, the Fishmans. By the way, Ian and Lewian, really glad you appreciate it. Here is kind of where I was with just one favourite by a band albums I have liked over the years (with The Necks, I have not even heard the whole thing yet, so long, but the first is great): Laurie Anderson - United States Live Björk - Homogenic Live Boris - Performing "flood" Glenn Branca - The Third Ascension Camel - A Live Record Cardiacs - All That Glitters Is a Mares Nest Ciśnienie - Brass Album Miles Davis - Dark Magus Dead Can dance - Toward the Within Electric Masada - At the Mountains of Madness Fishmans - 98.12.28 男達の別れ (98.12.28 Otokotachi no wakare) Geinoh Yamashirogumi - ライブ ''開かれた合唱'' 十年の展開 (Live ''Hirakareta Gassho'' Junen No Tenkai) Gentle Giant - Playing the Fool Grobschnitt - Solar Music: Live Henry Cow - Concerts Anna von Hausswolff - Live at Montreux Jazz Festival Jimi Hendrix - Woodstock Hawkwind - Space Ritual Kraan - Kraan Live Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same Magma - Rétrospective Vol. 1 & 2 (love Live (Hhaï) The Necks - Athenaeum, Homebush, Quay & Raab Thee Oh Sees - Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion Portishead - Roseland NYC Live Rush - Exit...Stage Left Santana - Live at the Fillmore 1968 Sigur Rós - Inni Siouxsie and The Banshees - Nocturn Swans - Swans Are Dead Tangerine Dream - Ricochet The Who - Live at Leeds If I do a poll, I might do it as live tracks. I would do an Interactive poll but various of my fave tracks are very long indeed Edited by Logan - November 04 2024 at 14:22 |

I hadn't heard of the Fishmans until this poll, I'll try to check them out today. I would like one day to have some sort of a "best of" live list, but I'd also like to have a "best of" EP list too, and also to be in my 40's again. |

^ A best of EP list is an awesome idea. Too often they get neglected. I have neglected them far too often myself. With Fishmans, it is Long Season I like best and I love the live version I posted a video of in this topic.
Love it so much gonna post it thrice: |
