Good poll Paul. I know most of these, but I'm a bit torn between the excellent Killing Joke album and The Cult's Dreamtime; so on the flip of a coin my vote goes to The Cult.

I love Joy Division, Wire, and Bauhaus, and like more there, but I also really like Cocteau Twin's Garlands and Siouxsie & the Banshees' The Scream (at least I got to cover those in my little series). Going with The Scream. Me voting for a two starred album by you Paul, will wonders never cease.

By the way, not that it matters, but I would have voted for Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division had it been included.

My faves here are: Magazine, Cocteau twins, Durutti column, Killing Joke, Souxsie and the banshees and Simple minds. Its a tight squeeze between Magazine and Killing Joke... but its gotta be 'Real life' by Magazine.

Sorry Paul, there's literally NOTHING in this poll that I even remotely enjoy (and believe me, I've endured quite a lot of it back in the day)... it's all my sister's music!
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

^ I'm thinking your sister and I should maybe consider hooking up in the future depending upon how things go. My wife just did go to California again, and will be gone for a week; just saying. ;) Kidding, I'm utterly loyal to her and she is to me as much as one could be. That said, women do love a mustachioed man in a bright red diaper.

Growing up in the punk-town of Vancouver, punky music is practically in my DNA (kind of an epigenetics thing).

I haven't spoken to her about this yet (she's literally just flown out to NZ for 3 weeks to see my other sister) but I'm quite sure she's been wetting herself in anticipation of the first 'The Cure' album in 16 years... her fave band growing up....

the list Paul has put up was much of the stuff that was being played in our 6th form common room back in the mid 80's.... at the time, I was all Rush/Yes/Genesis/Purple/Sabbath & Zep...

My eldest (21 now) saw The Cure some time back with the partner, who is a huge fan of The Cure and this kind of music. I'm looking forward to hearing that new album too. I have come to really love things like Siouxsie and The Banshees and Joy Division quite recently as well as a lot more post-punk. I've always been attracted to the quirkier side of things being a very quirky individual. Not outwardly, always looked very conservative -- I actually don't follow the Zardoz fashion sense -- but internally.

Not to worry. There's another Arena Rock poll coming up tomorrow. Maybe you'll find something you like there instead. Smile

Yes, I know from past experience that whenever I give an album two stars, that'll be the album you're most  likely to vote for, although I knew from previous comments that you're a fan of both Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Cocteau Twins.  Smile

Funny thing about that thread is there's nothing much in there that I've listened to in the past 30 years either! But at least I grew up with a bit of Journey, Toto & Styx in my collection!

having looked at your own ratings, it does seem you're less than enthusiastic about the Post-Punk world yourself?

I'm a big fan of U2 so I included them in the poll even though they're not British, but you're right, other than U2, I'm not overly-enthusiastic about Post-Punk. I bought an album by The Cure recently, but only because it was reduced to 10p in a charity shop bargain bin. I also somehow ended up with six albums by The Smiths, even though they've only made four albums. Tongue
