do a tour for the last 3 King Crimson albums? (THRAK, The ConstruKction of Light, and The Power to Believe). Vai's guitar playing and Danny's TOOl background would certainly fit the vibes of the heavier instrumental sections. It's an era for the band that always feels underappreciated. I'd love to see them preform that material live, thoughts?

Power To Believe is great. I have the box set with all 3 albums so would be up for it as long as they come to the UK!

That sounds awesome! I would love that. I'm seeing them for the second LA date on Nov 10th, very excited.

It would probably be possible from a technical standpoint, but I don't think there's a big enough ticket-buying audience for it... For these very grown up and well established guys to consider going on tour with it, I mean. I don't think any other "Frippless" tour playing only post KC's 1969-1974 material would be possible for BEAT. Discipline in particuler has gained a status as a genuine classic King Crimson album, and as a selling point, I think it carries a lot of the potential for this tour on its shoulders. I may be wrong of course.

Hi,

While it is always a nice touch and a possible exceptional evening, in the end, I have not been a fan of these great adventures for many of the "stars" in the game. I like the idea of seeing them flex their abilities some more and give us a chance to watch it, however, I would imagine that some new material would be more attractive than simply just another version of a KC piece or two ... heck, I would pay to see Pappa Bear do "Close To You" one more time for a lot of fun (a side group in his early days called The Clams), than I would to watch him play the same KC thing over and over again ... I think the talent side of it is not as challenging. Or as much fun, as it could be ...

Reminds me of the days after the original YES, and all the big name bands that came around ... they were not bad at all, and had some interesting results, but I think ... that most of us, really want a wonderful evening of new stuff that is far out, instead of a replay of some stuff that is 40/50 years old ... well, we do enjoy seeing our Mozart and Beethoven's in our own home towns, so I guess that is OK with me ... although, for me, I prefer a New experience, not something that I have heard 100 times.

Unfortunately you are wrong. Most want to see what they know that they already love. Maybe 1 in 100 would want new and far out stuff from ageing artists. In regards to BEAT, I'll admit I'm among the majority myself. I'm certain these guys know this very well - and have bills to pay.

Imo there's nothing wrong (quite the contrary) with wanting to see an ensemble performing Beethoven - or BEAT performing King Crimson. Great music made in the past is kept alive that way. Seeing KC's 1980's material actually performed live, will be a first for atleast 90% of the audience anyway. The first time I saw the music I loved and knew by heart composed by Shostacovich, Shubert etc... actually performed live - has always been intense and unforgettable experiences. Obviously not the same as listening to a recording.

...

Hi,

I'm not sure you quite got what I wanted to say ... my point was that I would have loved to see/hear new things, not stuff that was already done and cooked. It might be interesting for some, since some of these folks are/were a part of the great days that we remember, however, I would love to see them doing something new, instead of what they are giving us ... I hold no interest in seeing them based on what they are playing ... but give me half the show of originals and I would be there yesterday!

I think, not sure if it is true or not, that we have elevated some of these people to a higher level, based on the quality of their work, not necessarily doing someone else's work.

Again, and as you say, I might not be in a majority a whole lot, but if that were the case I'm not sure that so many folks would be totally enthused by the monthly listings and the quantity of newer stuff listed ... there is an ear for it ... and while I appreciate KC, and have from day 1 ... I think I want to remember those events and albums as I get older ... there is some real beauty in there, and I am not finding the "truth" in some of these newer interpretations and ideas, even though they are neat to see and hear ...

If your point was that you would have loved to see new/hear new things by BEAT instead of the 40/50 year old material, you should have just wrote "I" (which would be correct) instead of "most" (which is wrong).

Better let BEAT finish one thing and then they can think about the other.

I personally think this BEAT project is such an awesome thing. If you get a chance to watch the video of Rick Beato interviewing all the guys, it's so cool. Belew saying this all started because he waned to do a live tour in honour of 'Discipline's 40th anniversary. Getting Fripp's blessing, who politely declined to participate, but is fully behind this.
Just hearing Vai and Carey especially commenting on different bands and musicians is worth the price of admission. I mean Vai on Holdsworth is something.
So a BEAT tour for The Power To Believe should happen in 2043(40 years). Hmmm... I don't expect to still be here, but I'm sure it will be awesome.
