I thought I give you something slightly more modern in the middle of all these polls pitting the classics against each other.
In my view these two trilogies are absolutely among the best stuff ever recorded. Utterly iconic in every respect. They deserve to be up there with the best including the current KC vs. Yes, Genesis vs. Pink Floyd matchings. Actually, the three best trilogies ever for me are these two and King Crimson's early eighties one (I didn't include that one because KC is big 6, so that wouldn't give an interesting match). So for me it'll be supertough to decide, but what do you say?

Additional question: I was asking myself for a prediction, when setting this up, and I think, from what I've seen in the forum recently, that chances are Talk Talk will win this, however some people might prefer Swans as a band because of some popular material from their back catalogue. So please also indicate, if you like to say, whether the bands' whole discographies to you compare differently from their leading trilogies.

Easily Swans...and I'm not really a huge fan of them.

This one is definitely tough.  But I think Talk Talk edges out Swans ( and I say this as I listen to a Swans album "Children of God").  To be honest though, "Angels of Light" from Michael Gira (lead singer for Swans) beats the both of them.  He ran this band during the interval that the Swans were dissolved, before the release of the trio in this poll.  Tomorrow, I will probably change my mind, but Talk Talk wins tonight.

I completely agree with you on this one.

I was very exited about those two first Swans-albums of the trilogy (haven't checked out Glowing Man), but I'm not certain they will have the lasting qualities of those Talk Talk albums. Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock still gets their occational spins while I much rather see the Swans-material performed live.

"Angels of Light" had 6 albums.  I am most familiar with their last one called "We Are Him" which I consider an excellent 5 star album.  They are listed under Prog Folk, but the music is quite multi-dimensional.

I just happened to notice this topic at random, and since I love those albums by Talk Talk and Swans and had not responded before, and this was not locked, I opted to respond late.

In 2019 I was not nearly as familiar with either talk or Swans as I am now, but it wouldn't long before I'd explore the majority of both discographies.

It is a tough choice, but especially since Swans is so far behind, I will give it another vote. And I do adore that trilogy.

And, by the way, I really like Angels of Light too. How I Loved You and We Are Him are the two I have played the most. And Swans is mostly fantastic all the way through from Children of God to The Beggar for me (and I do like all of those albums). Swans is planni ng another album, and trying to raise some funds with the Live album Live Rope towards it (See Young God Records news). I've heard it is expected in 2025. I read on reddit by a poster that it will be called I Love My Nan. Sounds Gira stereotypical and I doubt the veracity without further research.

I can also only participate here on a similar basis like Paul, and that is though a vote for To Be Kind.

I missed this poll originally. Great trio of albums by each. In 2019, I would have definitely voted for Talk Talk. It's fairly even now. In the past few years, I have listened to more Swans over Talk Talk but still play Talk Talk. For today, I voted Swans.

Is it possible that a lot of people are voting for Talk Talk without knowing anything (or very little) about Swans? This is why I have options in my polls like "I only know Talk Talk" or "I only know Swans" etc. Otherwise you could easily end up with skewed results.

I don't fully agree with myself anymore. Six amazing albums that transcends the musical experience of listening to "great songs". It's bigger than that. That said I'm really just as fond of the most "normal" among these: The Colour of Spring. For the last couple of years I've been listening to it plenty of times. I feel a deep connection with it.

The Glowing Man eventually became my favorite comeback-era Swans album (followed by The Beggar). That doesn't take anything away from Seer or To Be Kind. I'm more comfortable with the former album. That's all.

I voted for Talk Talk five years ago, but both trilogies would have deserved it.

Not only possible, but not at all unlikely. I expect that the majority who voted have not heard both trios of albums, and some will not be very familiar with either trio.

Not my poll, but when I do polls I don't treat them as contests and it's the comments, notions, and conversation when it happens that matter far more to me than the votes. I ask people to comment but not all like to do so.
