The Acolyte

Having recently learned of the absurd and deeply unfortunate reactions this series received ~ the accusations of 'wokeness', the blindness and utter lack of comprehension or discernment that the Star Wars galaxy is a vast corollary of thousands of races, worlds, powers and mysteries ~ its cancellation is a travesty of ignorance overcoming art.   

Creator/writer Leslye Headland offered a deeper, more meaningful story than the kid & family oriented Mandalorian, exploring the viewpoint of practitioners of the Dark Side of the Force but also how the Jedi dealt with the ongoing relationship between its own and the temptations of the darker arts.   A talented cast including Lee Jung-jae, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, and Manny Jacinto bring the story alive with sensitive performances giving fans a more serious, adult plotline that takes place near the end of the High Republic a hundred years before SW:Episode One involving two twin girls created by a coven of Night Sisters.

Currently a second season is not planned partly due to low ratings as well as fan disagreement and bad online responses.   Hopefully, somehow, Season Two will be made as it ended with quite a cliffhanger, but as of this writing there are no intentions to revive it.   And that is a real shame.

Twisted Metal Season 1

^ Never got into video games. In terms of TV adaptions the recent Fallout is superb although I also enjoyed Halo a lot. Twisted Metal has been kept a lot 'lighter' with a lot less pretensions and presumably is made on a much smaller budget. That makes it stand out a bit and is in its favour. Hopefully they might get a bigger budget but not holding my breath.

^ I watched that straight after Strictly. I love both Annette Benning and Sam Neil so that might be enough to drag me through it.

Finished Nightsleeper yesterday (well early hours of the morning actually!). It's brilliantly written and the cast (inc Joe Cole, James Cosmo, Sharon Rooney, Alexandra Roach and the wonderful David Threlfall especially) do a great job. Even at times some great humour and a hugely ironic but satisfying twist at the very end. It's quite a ride! 9/10

The Killing Kind

^ one for you maybe, Mexican film director Alfonso Cuaron has made a TV series called Disclaimer starring Kevin Kline and Cate Blanchett. I'm struggling to follow it, just baffling!

^ I know I talk up Apple TV a lot but they generally do commit to finishing their stuff and have several interesting shows in production especially Silo and Severance at the top of the list as well as the sci fi epic Foundation.

On Amazon Prime are you watching The Devils Hour? This could be right up your street. First season was a bit weird but the second has just started and it's brilliant (so far). It stars Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine who are both great in it.

My brother has been telling me to try Apple TV; it's about time I do. I have wanted to watch Foundation; loved the novels. Thanks for the recommendation, I do now plan to watch it. For one thing I love Peter Capaldi. He was a magnificent Doctor (my fave of the modern Doctors), amazing character in Torchwood, and Malcolm Tucker is such a "great" character. Ah, I wish he and Moffat had stayed longer with Doctor Who. And Jessica Raine has a Doctor Who connection.

I did start on a new series with Prime called The Feed. Rather too soap opera-y to me. Always seem to like David Thewlis, who is in it (another of my favourite actors).

I like weird, depending on the weird. Weird is how people would describe many of my tastes. I adore Twin Peaks, and my wife stopped watching it for getting too weird.
