Hello friends of Progarchives. I would like to add a band/album to the database. This is the Swedish band Å. Based on their latest album "Åtråvärld", they have a sound with obvious folk influence (very much in the style of other Scandinavian bands) mixed with progressive rock and psychedelic rock. I consider the "Prog Folk" genre to be perfect for them.

Artist Name: Å
Subgenre: Prog Folk
Album: Åtråvärld

Biography (Directly sent to me by Joel Öhlund):

The trio Å from Uppsala in Sweden takes the progressive rock a step further with metal, jazz, reggae, heavy beats and folk vibes from around the world mixed with swedish lyrics and a lot of improvisation. The band formed in 2009, consists of Joel Öhlund, Erik Wallin and Milovan Fredriksson. They have 3 studio albums to date.

Å is the swedish letter after Z but also a trio from Uppsala. As a band Å focus on feeling, improvisation and playfulness when performing. Anything can happen!. The trio occasionally invite other musicians/soloists to play. These times the music can go even further into the unknown. The audience is invited to a great mix of psychedelic rock, folk music from around the world, metal, reggae and jazz.

The Band:

Joel Öhlund (vocals, guitar)
Milovan Fredriksson (bass)
Erik Wallin (drums)

"Åtråvärld" Album Cover (Latest Album:

I hope you can add this excellent band to the database. I think that, both for style and quality, it belongs in Progarchives.

Greetings from Spain,
Javier

How amusing; I once suggested the Italian band with the same name for Krautrock (also a trio!): https://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=12469

I'll take them to the team (and will lightly edit your bio if they get accepted, if you don't mind).

I've just sampled extensively all three of their albums.

This band certainly merits PRogArchives inclusion, but Prog Folk???? ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

Psychedelic-Stoner sounds right for me. Wink

It's psychedelic yes, but including it in the psychedelic/space rock section I think can create confusion. On the last album the drift is much more folky and that is why I have proposed including it in "Prog Folk". They have a varied sound, but of all the Progarchives sections, that is the one I think it fits best.

I don't really understand the psych sub genre but to me this is eclectic, by very definition.  I'll listen some more though

I also have problems with the "Psychedelic/Space Rock" label. Although if another Swedish band (Agusa) are in that section, I can understand this band being in that category as well.

Will the band be added to the site eventually? What genre would be chosen?

Nah. I just find that nationalist Finnish PSA hilariously propagandous. Like, in a "so bad it's good" sorta way. Everytime I see the letter Å by itself, I'm reminded of it and I get a chuckle. :D

I agree with Sean Trane here, you just seem rude here with that image.
This is a suggestion thread, your post just does not help in any way.

I did not mean to come off as rude. I posted that image solely as a throwaway joke. I'll replace it with something less polarizing.

Also, Uppsala has a rich prog history, as Samla Mamas Manna, Kaipa and all of their offshoots are from Uppsala. I'm listening to Åtråvärld on Bandcamp right now. Amazing stuff. I'm rooting for them to be added.

Well, sometimes. Aren't we all? You especially should be able to relate. ;)

^ I sometimes respond in kind. It's different from your unprovoked attacks. I also don't deliberately post offensive stuff and then later edit it out to pretend it never happened.

But feel free to disagree.

It was far from deliberate.
But aside from that, I agree. One of the things I hate on all kinds of online forums is people's urge to start arguments and dramas. Let's relax.

Hey Javier,

we'll transfer the suggestion to another team and see what they say.
