My Dad's name was Robin and he was born in Sherwood too, so he's doubly qualified when it comes to the legend of Robin Hood.

Yes, I was born in Sherwood too and I even had a bow and arrow set when I was young and I also have an aunt called Marion and an uncle called John. To be honest though, I look more like Friar Tuck than Robin Hood these days.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I knew that. When the first album came out, they really played up the Houston, Texas connection as seen in the Out of the Silent Planet album cover with the southern Texas coast outline and the Houston skyline. |

I played for Sherwood chess club for a year in 1980 when I was as Trent Poly studying (well sort of lol). I ended up leaving Nottingham because my grades were not up to scratch. Great place so I was gutted at the time (especially as I ended up in the ass hole of Wales finishing my studies )

Sorry, not Prog, but I just don't associate my province of BC (Canada) with Prog despite various Prog bands coming from here. This is punk territory. NoMeansNo hails from the capital city of BC, which is Victoria. In BC there has been a huge immigration rate which has put pressure on schools, house prices are soaring, longer hospital waits, traffic is such a pain, parks once quite are noisy with people, and violent crime has gone up significantly. Now the government is pushing for densification to try to make room for all the people here and that keep on coming. In my neighborhood there was a push to stop multi family homes and monster homes, but the government chose otherwise for all. Progress? Hmmp, who needs it, except perhaps when it comes to music, and well, actually lots of other things.
There are many very disgruntled people, and the song "Kill Everyone Now" would be quite the anthemic statement for BC due to concerns about increasing population. Note: I do not endorse the message of the title of the song. "Everyone" seems extreme. ;) I would like to see decreases in population worldwide. |

I mentioned increasing violence. Now where I live in the Vancouver region, while walking to a shopping area, I passed by a memorial by the street for someone who was gunned down. There have been a scary number of stabbings and shootings of late (I mean it has seemed worse over the past few years, and an increase in gang violence), so I thought one fitting instrumental to acknowledge the violence in BC is the electronic artist Tim Hecker's "Stab Variation" off Virgins (2014). He was born in Vancouver, BC, but has moved. He is in PA's Progressive Electronic category.
By the way, I think I might be pretty good as the spokesperson for Tourism BC. ;) |

I'm from Pennsylvania so my choice is the band Echolyn.

^ I would consider "Misery, Not Memory" off The End Is Beautiful as a Pennsylvania Echolyn choice. Fits the world over, imo.
EDIT: Sorry, the "Debbie Downer" type humour seems to work better with people I know in person. Edited by Logan - August 30 2024 at 17:45 |

Changing my selection because for regional reasons. Raised in San Jose and having lived all around the San Framcisco Bay Area, I think what I would want during a roll call is this. Now I currently live Miles and miles away in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Not much comes to mind for prog, but there is Happy the Man. But what track? |

From Mexico, not so sure. I guess I would have to go with something between El Puente and Frente al Umbral from Cast, or 7:19 from Iconoclasta, or Obscuridad from Ekos. Overall from Latin America I would definitley have to consider La Poderosa Muerte from Los Jaivas.

I want to make a correction to this post of mine, as I find it to be quite important. I got the term "welfare capitalism" from Esping-Andersen's book The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism (1990), but I find it much better to call it "welfare state capitalism". |
