I'll go with the two star Lone Rhino.
I never knew Toyah Wilcox was in King Crimson. |

All great albums, but King Crimson gets my vote.

KC but the other album I like here is from Michael Giles. A canterbury vibe here with Jimmy Hastings, Geoffrey Richardson and Dave MacRae helping out.

She wasn't, but Toyah and Robert belong together like Juliet and Romeo. I even considered putting them next to one another in the poll. Edited by Psychedelic Paul - August 16 2024 at 12:33 |

The problem with these polls is that it's always very hard to beat the mothership. I mean, Court isn't even up with the very best KC for me and some of the other albums are fine (not too bad that Toyah one). Still ITCOTCK wins and it's not even close.

Still. it's always good to see everyone's secondary choices though. Inevitably, they're overshadowed by the mothership album in this first poll, but there's a lot of other fine albums here too, especially Gordon Haskell's first album, which I heard for the first time this morning. 1. 1969: King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King 2. 1969: Gordon Haskell - Sail in My Boat 3. 1970: McDonald & Giles - McDonald & Giles 4. 1973: Peter Sinfield - Still 5. 1978: Michael Giles - Progress

^My second choice would be Bruford, then Gavin. In the Court would be my fourth choice.

I'd probably have Lone Rhino as second.

I have a feeling the second King Crimson poll will be the last time I vote for KC in any of this series of polls.

In the Court (first heard in Vancouver, 2003 or 2004) over Lone Rhino (first heard in Cairns, 1989). Both albums have been special to me.

I first heard In the Court of the Crimson King back in 1970 when someone bought the album into school and played it on the sixth form room record player, but it took me over fifty years to actually go out and buy the album on CD sometime in 2011.

I'm kind of torn since I'd sooner put on Tony Levin's World Diary than ItCotCK at this stage.

I met Toyah briefly in an hotel in Newcastle where I was working back in 1981, she was touring the 'Anthem' album and she was staying there after a gig in Newcastle, so I have always had a soft spot for that album.
What a lovely lady she was (and still is).
