Dead Can Dance is sublime music with depth....while DT is just a prog metal band.

Dead Can Dance all the way. Saw them live in London a couple of times in the early 80’s - superb. Additionally the fact I don’t like metal makes this poll an easy choice for me….

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

In the 90s I would have said Dream Theater, nowadays I say Dead Can Dance. The last 2 DCD albums have been amazing!

I find Dream Theater's music incredibly boring. But here in this poll, the other contender is also something I dislike equally as much, except for different reasons. It's like voting between feces and vomit. I voted for Dream Theater.

I do like DCD but overall it's Dream Theater for sure.

Absolutely. 11 years ago both would have got more votes, and there would be many more comments by this time, but I expect that Dead Can Dance would have done better. We've lost most of our Prog Metalers over the years as well as the kind of Indie/ Avant/ Art music kids who would also be into things like Dead Can Dance. By the way, here is concert footage of both from 2022 . DT at the RIO festival in 2022, less playfully it's a Rio de Janeiro concert (as opposed to Rock in Opposition). And here is Dead Can Dance in Lisbon, 2022. DCD still sounds fantastic in concert. Some of the DT moments from that concert remind me of DCD, but in a more Games of Thrones kind of way. While both are very different forms of expression, I can totally get people here not being into either, which is actually one thought I had when teaming these two up. The album that got me very into Dead Can Dance is Spleen and Ideal. That said, I'm very into Neoclassical Darkwave, Darkwave, and Gothic Rock. That said, Dead Can Dance can also be pretty light and airy and quite ebullient. I'm into many acts with related "sounds" like Cocteau Twins (interesting similarities to me with early Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins), Controlled Bleeding, Coil (especially the Ape of Naples) etc. And more modern ones like Lingua Ignota and Anna von Hausswolff.

None. I know they are good musicians, but their music does not appeal to me.

You know, if this poll had been taken on this site 20 years ago, DT would have won by a landslide...

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I love Dead Can Dance whole discography (well, Spiritchaser isn't exactly a highlight), and as far as I know I do not love a single second of music in Dream Theater's whole discography.
