Frozen Rose
In the land of the grey and pink
The show of our lives
No backstage pass
Watcha gonna tell me
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Oh ! the choice is not so obvious , cos' they recorded a lot of splendid stuff I liked and still like !

A top 5 only is a real challenge !

Let's go !

L'auberge du sanglier
Memory Lain Hugh, Headloss
For Richard
In the land of pink and grey
Nine Feet underground

and a lot more

The only Lp (of their regular discography) I don't like is Waterloo Lily

Top 5 seems way too little, IMHO
Why not apply your usual top 7 formula?

1- Nine Feet Underground
2- Winter Wine
3- A Day In The Life of Maurice Haylett (B-side of Who Do single)
4- Where but For A Caravan Would I
5- The Love In Your Eye

6- L'Auberge du Sanglier
7- For Richard
8- Place of My Own
9- Cecil Rons (a way too-short marvelous track - out of this world)
10- Cthlu

11- In The Land of G&P
12- Memory Lain, Hugh / Headloss
13- As I Feel I Die
14- Nothing At All
15- Show Of Our Lives & Dabsong Conshirtoe

.

Strangest take I've ever seen (in regards to Caravan). Just how does one like If I Could do it All Over... but NOT In the Land of Grey and Pink?
-
-wait, there's eight songs on their first album and five on their third (ItLoGaP). You should definitely give the early albums you weren't aware of a try (and For Girls Who Grow Plump... a second chance after doing so)

Memory Lain, Hugh/Headloss
Can't Be Long Now suite
Nine Feet
Winter Wine
Frozen Rose

I struggle with their first album; Lily and Plump are sporadically decent, where If I Could & Pink are ALMOST flawless

Me too. There are no under par songs on the classic Land of Pink and Grey album, although I still have a fairway to go to listen to all of Caravan's albums again. Smile

Winter Wine is my favorite. I haven't listened to their other albums, aside from if i could do it all over again i'd do it all over you.

^ Amazingly, you're the first person to vote in this poll, nearly four years after it was first posted by Father Christmas, who's long since disappeared to tend to his reindeer. Smile

I'll add up the collective points for the Top 5 Caravan songs as we go, using my usual points system:-

1st song (6 points)
2nd song (4 points)
3rd song (3 points)
4th song (2 points)
5th song (1 point)

I'm still undecided on my Caravan Top 5, but I'll have a list of songs coming up soon, with "For Richard" most likely at the top of my list. Smile

Ck out their page here then listen to them on you tube or elsewhere....as I said on the other thread the first 5 albums are all very good if you like the Canterbury sound., but there is some good music on the later ones also.
I would recommend Hatfield and the North and Khan(Space Shanty) to start on other Canterbury bands...but there are many good ones.

Oh...have to get back on the 5 songs but I'm betting the Canterbury fans  will be posting soon....

I thought this might be an interesting topic as Caravan doesn't seem to be a widely discussed band on PA, also because I am not very familiar with them - I only have one album that I bought recently, In the Land of Grey and Pink, so it would be very good if people could give me an idea of what they did that's good and what they did that's bad (if they did anything bad).
