at someone in this thread is on point... figures it would be you Greg. Great video..  sure you've seen it but if you haven't sure you'd appreciate

A lot of greatness about Dickey in this.  Shame that it Duane going early for the world to that that as great as Duane was, one of the greatest of all American guitarists.. Dickey was right with him and Dylan recognized it as well.

RIP Dickey...  you gave a generation of music fans so much great songs, incredible music and never forget... 'liz Reed.. that alone puts you on the cosmic guitar all-star list.

Quote Really? You think they deserve a classy response?

That's not the point! You deserve a classy behavior! Progarchives is not a tabloid. Why would the subject justify you acting so immature? Is OJ gonna read your post posthumously? On a Progressie Rock forum? haha

This is one of the things I hate about online sociopolitical talk. It's that unnecessary showmanship.

Dickie Betts of the Allman Brothers died at the age of 80. Wonderful guitarist and songwriter. What a band that was.

Speaking for myself, of course, I don't think they deserve respect. I would say disdain. I think respect is something to be earned.

Putin and the butchers who slaughtered and burned babies on October 7th, have families who may love them. Do they deserve respect?

Hitler was not good artist, nor was Gacy. Spector was a genius. Nuts perhaps, but a artistic genius. Just the truth.

^^ I recall that to some extent. I think you handled it well. There are lots whose deaths I would not mourn but I still might recognise accomplishments they made. For me, it is kind of being sensitive to others, and expectations, in how you express yourself while at the same time being sincere and sharing your genuine feelings. Whatever the balance is, and even should we try to be tactful, we can often offend people, and that's okay (I even favour causing offence in various cases). :)

Deaths of people who have fallen from social grace is tough. I recall saying that Phil Spector was a recording and production genius without mourning his death and caught some backlash for it. As if his being a murderer somehow diminished his past artistic skills.

^ You don't have to agree, but I hope you can understand at least where I'm coming from and see why I think making topic on it like that was potentially problematic. At least I try to explain my thinking, and I don't hold it against you. And sorry, that came out wrong about trying not to be insensitive. I didn't mean to tell you how sensitive you should be. It's something I consider for myself, and of course different people have different yardsticks and perspectives. I respect and accept that. Heck, many people think us Canadians way too polite and apologise way too much.

Yeah.

EDIT: Now that it's off the active topics/ latest forum posts list and so not as visible, I have decided to unhide the topic. CLICK It's locked but I do feel bad commonly when hiding people's topics and posts. I have had posts which I put a lot of time and thought into hidden when a topic was hidden, and was not too pleased.

At least I didn't say Rot in...which is more fitting for sure.
And, that's some serious snowflakin' goin' on there. I think I can decide for myself who deserves my sensitivity thank you very much. He ain't one of them.
I have nothing more to add.

Moving on...

I agree! Progarchives isn't Twitter, Reddit, 4chan et al. You don't have to act like a manchild with an inflated ego here. :) You can express your satisfaction with a death of an undeniably horrible person here, but do it with class.

I learned it the hard way. I recently expressed my stance against generative AI here in an impulsive fashion with the use of multiple curse words and my post got taken down. And that isn't because PA wants to silence people who don't support Generative AI, which, trust me, is a technology that scammers, plagiarists and liars abuse like crazy. ;)
Confused

Ok...I'll remember that when I wish Paul Bernardo the same fate. Wacko

Yep, and I have no issues with AFKC responding to FNW's "Yep. I heard that. Some would say RIH" with "^Yep. I heard that. Some would say RIH" in the RIP thread. I feel the same way about AI as you. One thing that I should mention is that things can seem very arbitrary when action is taken, but often when I do (and one can blame me for most moderation here) it;s due to complaints. SOme complain when I haven;t taken action, but that is often because I have not noticed it and it has not been reported. We mods are very few and there is no all-seeing, all-knowing eye. I kind of hate moderating (doing it since 2008 I think), left at least twice, but came back anyway after being requested, and one time so I could deal with a person who was making serious threats. One of the worst things about being a mod is that you get blamed for taking action and not taking action, and it can often lead to grudges. I wish we could all be a little more tolerant and forgiving. I do believe in moderation in all things, including moderation. Having had my kids looking at his site, I was a little more concerned about language than some.

No surprise, I'm the one who hid it (it still exists). Not exactly the same in this thread, but I thought having it as a topic with the topic headline "Rest in H3LL OJ" was both unnecessary, especially for a music site, and in very questionable taste.

The post itself merely said

I know I would find seeing a topic titled ""Rest in H3LL OJ" off-putting if visiting a site like. It seems so aggressive / doesn't make me think, what a lovely crowd this must be at PA. Frankly I don't think the infamous OJ even deserves the recognition to get his own thread here.

Oh, and maybe because I lost both of my parents to cancer (my mother last July), my brother is dying from it, and my other had it, I'm not excited when anyone dies from it.
