I personally prefer your old list, Octopus II. 😉
9 out of 10 bands were on my Top 10 list. And the most important, our Top 1 is the same.

1. Yes
2. Pink Floyd
3. Emerson, Lake and Palmer
4. King Crimson
5. Hawkwind
6. Genesis
7. Jethro Tull
8. Porcupine Tree
9. Eloy
10. I.Q.

Since this is for bands I have not included Kate Bush or Peter Gabriel, who I certainly would have found a place for otherwise.
I should have been a pair of ragged claws

I like Kansas too, and with six of their albums on CD, they're amongst my Top 10  favourite American bands. Thumbs Up

to be fair, even as an ELP fan I can recognise that they may deserve it (through gritted teeth Wink

ELP were only really good up to 1973 , VDGG continued evolving and I even like Do Not Disturb and rate it one of their best. Sadly VDGG had the all the charisma of a lump of concrete back in the day (well maybe not a lot has changed Tongue )

I mean... just look on the ratings on PA, really the only poor record VDGG made was ALT, everything else has been really good.

ELP has everything up to Works Vol. 2, and maybe Black Moon (it's an okay record)

Hawkwind, Cardiacs and Henry Cow above Eloy, Nektar, PFM, Focus, Strawbs, The Flower Kings, Pendragon, Gong and Caravan (none of whom made the list)? Wow. I guess there must be an avant gardey crowd conspiring here. Wink
