Gen V - A spin off show from The Boys, follows a younger group of 'supes'. It's an interesting take on the world of The Boys and like it's predecessor can be quite brutal and shocking at times.

Finished Gen V and very enjoyable it was too. Some extremely gross out moments as well, which seemed gorier than The Boys - good effects though. Nice to see a familiar face at the end. 8.5/10

^ and seconded!

Finished The Curse, a very weird fake reality TV show starring Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder as a couple who are both financing and overseeing the roll out of modern eco homes to a New Mexico community. Stone's character is a spoilt little rich girl who desperately seeks affirmation for what she is doing to a point that it becomes quite uncomfortable and cringeworthy. The almost stand alone final episode is a remarkable feat of technical filiming. Totally surreal. No idea how to rate this but I like to watch things that are different than the usual. This is definitely that!

Fargo se05. I've only watched the first episode so far and Fargo is back to its brilliant best (season 4 was a blip in an otherwise superb TV show). So many questions already and I can't wait to see how it pans out. Love those Minnesota accents too.

^ you won't be disappointed! I watched the last episode tonight and overall it's easily 9/10.

Others I've just finished

For All Mankind S4
Now up to date with this alternative universe space race saga (sorry that's a terribly clumsy descrption but don't want put out any spoilers). Generally a law of diminishing returns, this is 7/10 at best.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters S1
I liked this a lot, could have gone very wrong but great casting (including Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt) plus a good script that respects the original Godzilla character, on top of which a decent budget, makes this work. Enjoyable and surprisingly emotional in the end. 8/10

I had a glance at the Emmy awards listings from a few days ago. Very pleased to see these

Outstanding Drama Series - Succession
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series - Keiran Culkin as Roman Roy in Succession
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series - Sarah Snook as Shiv Roy in Succession
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series - Matthew Macfadyen as Tom Wambsgans in Succession
Outstanding Actor in a Limted Series - Paul Walter Hauser as Larry Hall in Black Bird

Interesting that despite being two of the most nominated comedy shows, Ted Lasso and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel only picked up 2 awards each.

FX drama The Bear has taken over as the most awarded comedy series (in fact more than any other shows from other categories as well inc Succession). Looking forward to watching that at some point.

Reacher S2

Very enjoyable action stuff although I've never read Lee Child's books (on which the character and stories is based) so can't compare it to that. The lead actor here is the very tall well built Alan Ritchson. I've seen him in a few other things inc playing the superhero ''Hawk'' in the DC comics series Titans which I also enjoyed a lot. He could be the new Dwayne Johnson if his career is managed properly. 8/10

Hi,

I wish the streaming side of the cable folks would open up some ... I don't think they realize how much more they can gain ... as if the number of stream sites did not suggest that there is a huge mine out there!

I miss a few soccer games, and some NFL games ... and even some tennis. But these are completely closed down and way too costly otherwise!

^ and it's going to just get more expensive with less output being put up. The golden age of streaming is behind us, what's next I don't know.

Just finished series 5 of Fargo. Stunning TV, it's up there with the best of US shows. Every character was acted superbly. In fact there was no bad points at all - anywhere. We'll hopefully see Munch (Moonk) again. And the guy (Joe Keery) from Stranger Things was excellent too. A 10/10 for me.

^ I hadn't made the Stranger Things connection at all! Glad you enjoyed it. My only quibble is that I don't believe the show's caveat 'told exactly the way it happened'. I just can't see that, no artistic licence then?!  That could be a considerable deceit much like the idea that The Crown is all true. Tongue

hi,

What surprises me the most is that TV and Streaming, are not looking to becoming one ... and whatever powers that be continue to keep them separate, until such a time that one or the other will die off, and I think that TV's days (specially in America) are numbered because of its controls. Nothing has helped more streaming shows and podcasts in America than the state of TV and its inability to open up the programming choices beyond their 5th grade maturity and laugh tracks.

Just this past week, there were some news outlets that suggested that the streaming of the NFL games was extremely successful and helped the TV numbers look better, where otherwise they would have suffered badly. This suggests that the likelihood, in America, is that these will come together ... but the when is another story.

I'll likely pay for streaming, but not TV and I have not had a TV in 15 years, and don't miss it!

TV's essentially are just big computer screens. Most of them have streaming apps built in although I prefer to use the Apple TV box thingy which is a powerful device for streaming. Of course it has Apple TV at the front but also a vast store of apps that you can use. I stream everything now including free to air UK services (BBC etc) and a few pay packages (apple, paramount and prime). In recent years there has been a tendancy for streaming to move towards ad based services and that worries me, you will have to pay extra to remove ads. Amazon Prime is doing this and it's a slippery slope. I could end up going back to regular TV and recording things using a personal video recorder (ie T-Vo) but I was hoping I had left that behind. Ultimately it's all going to be too expensive. Netflix was the dream but they couldn't make the numbers work so prices go up and output goes down. I see that as a continuing trend. Perhaps I will just need to stop watching TV and get a life lol Wink

I recently finished The Fall of the House of Usher and The Haunting of Hill House.
Both were really good, but I found Hill House to go on for a little bit too long. Still, really good.
And I finished The Haunting of Bly Manor. Which, also, was really good. Even though, just like Hill House, Bly Manor went for a little bit too long.

I'm in - the final season (8) of Fear the Walking Dead. It really is dire now, but I feel obliged to see it to a conclusion. I think the producers just wanted it done too. Only 12 eps though, thank God.

We've just finished the last series of Fear the Walking Dead. Man it was bad - but that's it for now (until we start on all the other WD spin offs), I need a break from zombies.

I wonder if anyone watches Wynonna Earp? It's a fun fantasy/sc-fi series that has now got to 4 seasons. I've just picked it up again after a long break. Something different from all the 'heavy' stuff!
