^ and there's another album for me to pay close attention to. Great music. For me, each of your choices has been a winner for me. Terrific. I like what you chose more than what I chose, in fact. As for Sprain, I suggested it and it looks like it will be accepted for Avant Prog. Hoping to add it before the end of this month. I just looked at the awesomeprog.com chart and see they did clear it, so I will add Sprain soon. Glad your post made me think to check that site's PA chart.

Although I shared this when it was quite new in another poll, I will mention this again as one of my favourites of the year.

ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT "The Sons and Daughters of Poor Eternal" (off Darling the Dawn)

And here is another of my favoourites

Squid "The Blades" (off O Monolith)

Reminder to all who participated, I hope to have the poll up by this coming Monday, then when the poll is up, vote for and list in a post three choices that are NOT your own. For those with multiple mentions, please list a top two or more of your choices in order of preference. Note that if your choice is considerably longer than ten minutes (I would not care with 11 minutes or so), then I would rather not include it and ask for another track.

And it's lovely to welcome some people who have not been regulars to these into the fold. I hope all with selections for nomination do participate in the listening and voting process.. Italian member Lorenzo started these some years ago, and it took on real life as others starting following suit with more polls, and bringing in their own twists and flavours to the proceedings, and it became its own little community at Prog Archives with participants who made these topics and voted in other peoples topics.   It's a neat way to expose yourself to music you might not usually hear, and sometimes it may be too far out of your comfort zone, but I figure us progressive music fans commonly are kind of used to challenging ourselves and being exposed to a very wide variety of music. Oops, starting to sound kind of preachy.... Enjoy, or not.    Thanks to all who posted selections.

While I have a playlist now for all of the selections so far in the opening post, once our choices are finalised, I will make a new playlist, just of the nominees, and put those choices in the poll.

Oh, and if anyone wants to mention music not for nomination, be it too long or they just don't want to participate in the listening/ voting process, please let me know and I would still like to check out what you like and I will add it to the all-tracks playlist even if not to the poll.

Here is my sure favourite from Sprain's The Lamb as Effigy which is out of competition as it is is over 20 minutes long. That and The Beggar Lover (Three) are two particular favourite epics of mine -- I posted this Sprain track in the Interactive Epics poll recently, but I want to post it here too.

"Margin for Error"

Here is a hypertext link to the 2023 Epics Interactive Poll started by Eduardo in July. There are three spaces remaining, so please consider getting in while you can.

^Just listened to this for the first and really liked it. Very Swans-like in that post-expansive sort of way.

I might post a couple more tracks for fun. My Amazon had been throwing in a number of art punk/post punk releases from 2023. Haven't listened to the complete albums, but I am enjoying.

I wonder if that style is just been rising or just that Amazon keyed in on some albums that I listened to.

For fun. I have 3 tracks in a mini-playlist. All from 2023 of various degrees of post-punkiness. I deliberately chose songs with videos as it makes me think back to how I explored new music through videos on MTV in the early 80s.

First band Model/Actriz is from the U.S. Second band Shame is from England, and third band Cable Ties is from Australia.

OK I'll start

From my choices I nominate 1st choice Grace Potter as she had a couple of positive comments on here. 2nd choice the D'Virgilio Morse and Jennings song.

^ Alan: Thanks, you're in poll position number one with Grace Potter, and we have D'V/M/J as an additional. I'll add the actual poll when all have been decided. I am thinking that I will place the first pick in the first section of the poll, and have second choices in the second half as a "bonus" (optional to listen and vote for the bonuses).

-----------------------------------

^^ George: I like post-punk a lot and enjoyed all of those (music and the videos). Model/Actriz's "Crossing Guard" I especially am into and would go to my favourites of the year. Great stuff, thanks.

-----------------------------------

^^^ Cristi: Lead Balloons is awesome! Love it. Definitely going on my personal playlist for the very best of the year.

-----------------------------------

I have opted to choose two (I can't say for sure I wont change my mind).

May be a bit too on the known side with some here (as knownness can discourage votes), but I'm going with Squid "The Blades" as choice one, and Sufjan Stevens "sh*t Talk" as choice two.

-----------------------------------

Here's a playlist for nominations which I will be updating as we go on, as well as updating the playlist with all choices in my opening post.

-----------------------------------

And here's another choice form from a very big name from the 80s -- Music for the Masses (1987) and Violator from 1990 are the two from DM that I have heard the most -- Depeche Mode "Ghosts Again" off Momento Mori, which is an album, like every other one represented here by me with a track, on my Albums of the Year list.

^ It's a very fine song, one of my favourite that I've heard from DM. I think it's a fine album.

"Before We Drown" is another particular favourite of mine from the album.

My choices would be in opposite order from my post on page one (which actually keeps Edeny at the second choice spot).  Although I think that Edenya will interest more prog fans,  I am sticking with the Harp piece as my first choice to nominate, as it is my favourite release of the year.  I would hope that if any of the three individual tracks I proposed from the longer releases piques an interest, they might garner a full listen, and, hopefully, a sale for the artist.

1.  Harp "Albion" ~ Seven Long Suns

2.  Edenya "Another Place" ~ Inside Your Walls

I'm looking at my AOTY list and I can't think of a single song I could take away from the album. I'll have to nominate something that isn't Prog so here's a song I heard a few times on the radio and a lot more in my head 😅

Voyou - Huis Clos

Samuel, I can't "see" that one (so, also, can't hear it).  Can you advise on the artist name and title (or another source, such as Bandcamp?)

My choices are my first in that order.

1. Pixie Ninja - Alpha Waves
2. Go Go Machine Orchestra - Atom (feat. Minyeh Hsien)

But, the other two as well could be there.

Greg - Glad you liked the post-punk trio of songs. I really like the sound and industrial layers of Model/Actriz.

One more from 2023. I picked this video to show the unique instrumentation. I haven't ranked it yet among my 2023. The band consists of two bassists, a drummer, and a musician playing one of his two handmade instruments.

Wananabani-en - Door Door

The homemade instrument used here is called the Ribbon Controller.

Here are descriptions copied from Bandcamp.

Kaisatsuko:
Electric two strings upright fiddle made in 2003. It is not performed with a bow. The rotating wheel (which is rotated by his handling) rubs strings and makes sound like Hurdy-Gurdy.

The translation of the word is as follows:
Kai = Rotation Satsu = Rub Ko = Oriental fiddle
-----
Ribbon Controller
Electric musical instrument which can change an oscillator pitch smoothly, depending on the place which you press down. Ribbon Controller was originally made as a kind of MOOG SYNTHESIZER's controller in late 60's. Yuichi made this following MOOG’s example and self learned to play it.
