^ not as good as Michael Hirst's Vikings which it's 'inspired' by. I think I got through about 2 episodes of Season 2 and that was enough. Another reason why I cancelled my Netflix subscription.
The BBC (and later Netflix) viking series The Last Kingdom though is brilliant. Netflix did a great job beefing that up.

Platform 7
Based on a well loved book of the same name (I've not read it) , this is about the ghost of a young woman who is haunting a train station where she died. It's very much a mystery drama and not meant to be scary at all. Touches on some important issues but feels a little unsubtle at times and in the end fell into the trap of being too much feminst preaching. I liked it but didn't love it although at 4 episodes it doesn't outstay its welcome. Also features the great actor Phil Davies although I felt his part was under cooked somewhat and just a device for her to be able to explain things to another ghost so we understand the plot. 7/10

Yes, it's certainly not got that Ragnar effect, but it actually turned out quite well as it went along and by the end it was an exciting romp. Another series to come too - which is nice. Just started with The Watcher with Naomi Watts. Reviews aren't great but hey, who knows right?

I did, erm, watch that, must have been one of the last things on Netflix I did. It's pretty decent maybe a 7/10.

Vigil Season 2 (6 episodes)
From the Line Of Duty writers, the second season moves from being on board a submarine to being army/middle east based conflict with special reference to drone warfare. Very enjoyable and with echoes of the Jack Nicholson film A Few Good Men. 8/10

Finished The Watcher. It was quite good but petered out to a rather unsatisfactory conclusion. I'll give it a 6/10

I finally got to watch it and binged the whole thing yesterday. Certainly very enjoyable and up to the standard of Hill House and Midnight Mass. I can only wonder at just how Carla Gugino stays so impossibly beautfiul! I used to read some Poe as part of the various horror compendiums that used to be around. I'd forgotten The Black Cat was even a Poe story. That's probably my favourite of his stories and is used for episode 4.

Succession season 4
Final go of the "satirical comedy-drama" following media-owning family the Roys led by domineering father (Brian Cox) and doting but scheming kids (including Kieran Culkin & Sarah Snook). Based both loosely and largely on the Murdochs, the show continues its uncanny portrayals of the sociopathic rich and tragically ambitious as they abuse, insult, betray and blackmail everyone around them before falling on their own swords. |

^ apart from (appropriately perhaps given just how utterly horrible they all are) Matthew MacFadyen's weasely character (screams ''spin off'' to me)
Roman was my favourite character by miles, would love to see what happens to him as well. I can't see HBO letting go of this that easily.

^ I could see a series about FoxNews with the same cast: Jeremy Strong playing Jesse Waters, Matt Macfadyen as Glenn Beck, and Culkin in a double role as Ben Shapiro & Tucker Carlson.

^ unfortunately wrong side of the pond for that to resonate with me.
Doesn't seem that likely there will be a spin off having done some investigating. Ah well.

The Tourist Season 2 (6 episodes)
Stars Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan (best remembered for ''The Fall'' with Gillan Anderson and best not remembered for 50 Shades Of Grey) the first season was set in Australia and was full of twists most of which I've now totally forgotten. Even with a recap it's a struggle to understand why the plot is now headed off to Ireland. Anywhow it's full of twists and turns again and is reasonably entertaining. Dornan is okay but it's the supporting 'character actors' that shine here with plenty of Irish gangsters to take your pick from. 7/10

^ Anderson was superb as Margaret Thatcher (in the Crown was it?)

^ I never got past Season 2 (The Crown) but certainly she is a brilliant actress. I liked the X Files 'reboot' as well.

Just started the second series of The Tourist on the BBC. I'm loving it so far, on a par, if not even better, than series 1.

Waiting for the final episodes to land of The Curse S1, For All Mankind S4, Monarch:Legacy of Monsters S1 and Fargo Season 5.
The latter is absolutely the best thing I've watched all year, back to the black humour and great characters that was a great feature of the early seasons. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jon Hamm are utterly brilliant. just finished the 4th season of Yellowstone , could almost be called the 'The Chronicles Of Beth' , Kelly Reilly playing the most messed up female character on a TV show since Leana Heady's Cersei Lannister. (9/10)

Truelove 2024 6 episodes
Extremely well cast and well written limited drama series focusing on an age old question of ''what do I do if I am terminally ill?'' This is UK based where the law is clear, it's illegal to assist someone to commit suicide in any circumstances. There have been some high profile cases where a spouse has received a suspended sentence as it would rarely be in the public interest to put someone in prison for this. However that's not a guarantee for sure. There has to be some safeguard for one's personal safety imo. You can go abroad where it's not illegal in some places but you may not want to end your life in a strange place and not with all your family. None of this is a spoiler for the drama which actually extends it's reach effectively to make a very enjoyable almost thriller type series although it does get a bit far fetched by the end. Still at only 6 episodes that's okay. 8/10
