I've only heard 'The Whirlwind' in terms of Transatlantic albums, and I love long songs (as any prog fan should), and Transatlantic seems to specialize in long-form songs, so please, discuss, debate, and argue about which is their best. Tongue

and YES, I'm counting The Whirlwind and The Absolute Universe as one long song, deal with it

The Whirlwind. Pete's bass playing is the highlight.

AotA, DwtD and Whirlwind are all equally as good! I voted for Duel only cuz it had no votes. :D All three of these epics are a great learning tool on structuring long multi-part prog tracks because they're flow so nicely!

Lyrically, I think All of the Above is the most cryptic, but that's the only one of these 3 songs I've picked, that isn't connected to God and Christianity in any way.

EDIT: BTW, I love Kaleidoscope, the epic! It's probably the most diverse TA song. I think the only thing that's brings down its flow from being 10/10 to 8/10 IMO is the fact the Ride the Lightning part was reprised twice in the song. IMO the band should've left either the 6/8 or the final reprise of Ride the Lightning in the final version. Having two, IMHO on a very similar level of climacticness felt like a bit of an overkill.

The Whirlwind!

Very long but never boring. Very well constructed, flows perfectly.

Duel with the Devil. I went inside an apple and then a cartographer told me about a marshmallow building that eats parking garages, then offered me a cement truck.

Love Transatlantic. My vote is for The Whirlwind then All of the Above.

All Of The Above should have been the last option 😉

The medley on Live In Europe which includes half of the Beatles' Abbey Road is the Transatlantic's track I've listened to more than any other. The Whirlwind is quite an obvious choice, but also Duel With The Devil has its merits. No vote.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Interesting, The Extended version of 'Bridge Across Forever' is higher rated than 'The Whirlwind' on PA (Only by 0.01), but in this poll, 'The Whirlwind' is winning by a mile, and BAF doesn't have any votes

I LOVE AOTA, but I have to give it to The Whirlwind. One of my best music memories is skipping highschool to listen to a torrented version of The Whirlwind on repeat the day it came out.

I've just listened to Duel with the Devil again. The "Motherless Children" hook is instant ear heaven! <3 The way Neal reprised it near the end with him adlibbing over a crescendoing female choir was genius.

I find the Roine Stolt mix of AotA to be way better than the official one and it's my preferred way of listening to the track. Because I've heard the Roine mix so many times, whenever I go back to the official mix, I'm distracted by the offset vocal parts in the "Camouflaged in Blue" section. :P

All very goos pieces of music. Quite Enjoyable. Duel with the Devil gets my vote, but not by much over the rest.

I think it's a bit unfair to include The Whirlwind, since that one is just about a whole album, and as such, much longer than the rest. But as it IS an option, that's my choice.

One could say the same thing about The Absolute Universe, but alas, there it is

I love The Whirlwind, but All of the Above was the song that first got me into Transatlantic and then Neal Morse, so I have to vote for that one.
