Good ones! Definitely in my top 20!

It's about 10 seconds of craziness before launching into the song. It has nothing to do with the rest of the song. I almost wonder if they were drunk when they came up with that. And yet, it's perfect.

It was actually edited down on the album with the original synth intro removed

aside from some mentioned: I really l like the harpsichord/synth(?) instrumental to start La Mente Vola, by Alphataurus.  Its the coolest part of the song!

Whoa! I've listened to that since 1977, and had no idea that there was originally a synth part. Very cool.

About a year and a half ago, I sat down and played this for my piano teacher. She is a classically trained musician and she loved it. I ended learning it over the course of 3 weeks, and have played it non-stop ever since. Absolutely amazing song and intro.

Gotta love that ping of 'Echoes' and another marine-ish song, 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' by Höstsonaten

Rachel Flowers "The Darkness."

I'm not sure if this can be an intro considering it is over a third of the song.  The intro is the first 3:40 seconds of a 10:03 song.  If you listen you can hear little bits of the intro throughout the rest of the song and then in the last 45 seconds she bookends the song with a bit of the intro.

Great one, though I'd go for "Can You Hear Me?" first.

Yep that Knights Of Cydonia intro is classic although it does remind of an earlier song by another English band The Heavy called Short Change Hero (used effectively as the theme music in an SAS army hero TV series that I forget the name of)

I love to put on my dancing shoes to the opening to Xanadu too - just before Olivia Newton John & ELO enter the stage - and featuring the late great Gene Kelly. Heart
