I'll be honest, that's where my cut-off point is too. I spent a few weeks over the summer re-analysing their post-Stormwatch material and while Broadsword is fun, there's nothing post '79 which makes me want to own it.

I really like Roots to Branches
Also Crest of a Knave is worth checking out IMO. Smile

I put that one on whenever I need a good sleep!

Knave is too sparse to work as an album for me, but a few songs I enjoy.

We all do! We just hate to admit it when we can read it backwards LOL

I can understand that completely, Jared.

If I were to buy Tull Vinyl, I would go all studio (This Was - Stormwatch) not missing a beat in between.

checked it out back in 1987, a couple of weeks after it was released... sounds like Dire Straits...

I wonder if Dire Straits were familiar and influenced by Ian Anderson & Jethro Tull. ConfusedLOL

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Fun story: Someone in Zappa's 88 band brought him the chords to STH to play live and his response was "that's it?" lol LOL

This guy knows the mighty Tull!

Those Albums are played in sequence every now and then

I’ve ordered the Broadsword set. There’s 4 studio albums on it lol. Hopefully it sounds good

Tull lost their magic for me after Stormwatch, and Broadsword fall into that category for me unfortunately.

4 discs of material from those sessions is insane! Better all be top notch! Thumbs Up

Barre ain't earth shattering, but that's not what I meant. I meant that Barre often gets overlooked relative to an overhyped Page (Zappa was right to critique him imo)

There sure would be no Zeppelin without Jones or Bonham Confused

Sad but true Confused

When you have a band of 4 songwriters and nothing they ever did came remotely close to Ian Anderson's lyrics says a lot Shocked

...and then there's "Stairway to Heaven", which strangely enough (although being lyrically great) Plant refuses to perform live anymore.

What's that all about?

haha I forgot about that song Big smile (not intentionally btw). It does have great lyrics indeed.

Maybe Plant knows he can't sing in range anymore, which would bring the song a disservice.

Or maybe he's tired of singing it, like it happens many times with bands and artists performing the same song over and over...

Plant's voice can be quite rough at times, but he still clears Anderson easily. Anderson can be quite annoying honestly. The instrumental talents of LZ impresses me more as well, but then again, I don't like Tull enough to listen to them a lot.

From the end of the 1960's up to the end of the 1970's they both created plenty of fantastic music. But Led Zeppelin's weakest albums are much stronger than Tull at their worst - in the era that counts. And as Zeppelin last release came out before the eighties had started, we don't have four additional decades of mediocrity from them. And that's a big plus.

So LZ it it.

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Even Bonham admitted Barlow was England’s best ever drummer
