1) I would pick Olias personally

Hmmmm, so your not including any band your not familiar with? That was not clear in your OP. You don't want to expand your boundaries and possibly find several excellent bands that are new to you?

Enjoy your thread and welcome to PA.

Perhaps I was not clear - thanks for letting me know Grumpy Thumbs Up

I just wanted to list the ones I knew first and hear your reasoning as everybody hears things differently. I noted your selections (even non-prog) and will def check them out!

I envy you! Prog in physical format (vinyl esp.) always feels like a treasure!

Ange: boy it's been a while, but I only heard ADDD and remember appreciating the lush symphonic elements in part reminding me of the homeland of Prog (the UK). Foreign vocals can be hit or miss but they really add to the music on this one. Obligatory Artwork.....

Since nobody has mentioned them yet, I'm throwing in my vote for Ambrosia.
Their first two records are stellar.  If pushed against the wall, I would pick "Somewhere I've Never Travelled." However, their first self-titled record is way more prog.
With production from Alan Parsons!

I have to pick ST debut as well! They quickly lost their prog touch and it's a shame!

Yeah go Figure lol LOL

Art Zoyd are easily the most with 20 albums, I'll probably pick Generation San Futur as the one I revisit most often.

AC/DC - 8
Ahleuchatistas - 7
Aranis - 7

Angra

The best album IMO is Holy Land because it's more original, progressive, filled with memorable melodies... than other albums (and most power metal).

I'll be a PIA and nominate ALICE COOPER!!

They were certainly innovative, and progressive in their use of orchestration, instrumentation and unique lyrics.

For album, I'll select "Killer."

This song is amazing.  One of the earliest rock recordings using a Mini Moog.

“Halo of Flies” was, according to Cooper’s liner notes in the compilation The Definitive Alice Cooper, an attempt by the band to prove that they could perform King Crimson-like progressive rock suites, and was supposedly about a SMERSH-like organisation.

Aphrodite's Child - 666
Anathema - Weather Systems
All Traps On Earth - A Drop Of Light
Anglagard - Hybris
Anderson Ponty Band - Better Late Than Never
Animals as Leaders - The Joy Of Motion
Ars Nova - Android Domina
Astra - The Black Chord

Arachnoid have only released one album, "Arachnoid":

Arachnoid - Toutes Ces Images / Segami Sec Setout

This track has one of the best uses of mellotron that I've ever heard.

==============================================

Atomic Ape have only released one album under the name Atomic Ape, "Swarm":

Atomic Ape - Rhythm Futur

Choosing a best track is difficult, but the above was an Interactive Poll entry (not by me).

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Hmm... Interesting!
Never heard of them, but despite being power metal (for which I have low tolerance for) your description fits my mold for good prog, so I will definitely check it out!

Never thought I would live to hear AC and Crimson mentioned in the same sentence! This track was something truly unique for them and I'm glad they did it!

My go-to AC still is...

That Atomic Ape album is superb, their subsequent band Red Fiction is playing ProgDay in 2 weeks.

Yeah, Babies is a classic!  I love it to death!!

I was a HUGE AC fan in high-school in the USA, and hung out with a very talent band of young guys who played AC note-for-note.  Rodney, the lead guitarist, also introduced me to King Crimson!!  We saw a LTIA show together once, amazing!!

Keep it up!!
