While I don't think Barre is earth-shattering by any stretch, I think Page is not quite as revelatory as many music-listeners contend. Still highly respectable and influential. Jones and Bonham are what make the band for me.

...and then there's "Stairway to Heaven", which strangely enough (although being lyrically great) Plant refuses to perform live anymore. What's that all about?

Sad but true ![]() When you have a band of 4 songwriters and nothing they ever did came remotely close to Ian Anderson's lyrics says a lot ![]() |

^ Willie Dixon and Blind Willie Johnson were the best lyricists Zeppelin ever had. Might as well throw in Memphis Minnie and Robert Johnson as well.
That being said, lyrically Zeppelin doesn't hold a candle to Ian Anderson.

Looks like it lol ![]() But in reality, it was in response to a member claiming Zeppelin were unanimously heads and shoulders above Tull in every musicians' respect. I disagree except the point about Bonham

A's: Is Plant as unique as Anderson in the singing department? Martin Barre can rival Page any day of the week or least close to it. Cornick, Glascock? You are correct about Bonham - no argument there.

Let's look at the topic this way:
Is Ian Anderson anywhere near to being the vocalist Robert Plant is? Is anyone of Tull's guitarists anywhere close to being as influential/memorable as Jimmy Page? Is anyone of Tull's bassists anywhere near as good as John Paul Jones? How many drummers in the history of humanity can be compared to JOHN HENRY BONHAM???? Flute department: advantage, Tull. Everything else: Led Zep!

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Led Zeppelin.
The best Jethro Tull albums are truly the best, but they have also some really bad ones IMO. Led Zeppelin has better overall quality.

Alright then. Tull is pretty boring to me, Led Zep is pretty great. So, LZ no contest.

I like Led Zep but compared to Tull, they lack variety, so it's Jethro Tull this time.

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)
