Finished Succession last night. I enjoyed it in the main, but I doubt I could take anymore of the style of the show with stuttering conversations, shaky camera work and it started to go round in circles a bit too much. A satisfactory, if rather brutal ending. 9/10 for the whole 4 series.

The Box of Delights (UK - 1984 - 6 episodes): One of the best kids shows I've ever seen. Especially the last 2 episodes were even better than Time Bandits. Splendiferous job! 10/10

Carnival Row Season 2

For my money the best fantasy series since Game Of Thrones. Starring Orland Bloom and model turned actress Cara Delevingne, both are extraordinarily good along with a great supporting cast. A version of Victorian London is well realised as the backdrop and some very horrid creatures are thrown in for good measure. 9/10

Picard Season 3

I've enjoyed the whole series a lot and this is as well written as the first 2. There are no plans for more sadly but does indicate a potential spin off involving Jeri Ryan's '7 of 9'. That would be fun. 8/10

enjoying The Last Thing He Said To Me. Only 4 episodes put up so far but I've gobbled them up.

Something else that had just come on is Citadel. Spy thriller stuff with some very good actors, notably Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville. Low brow high octane entertainment ideal for Friday night viewing!

Finished Beef last night. Started out really well, but stopped being comedic half way through and became a serious drama that ended in a strange sort of way. I really didn't like either of the main characters either - no empathy or sympathy from me (their stupid, selfish actions ruining many others' lives). 6/10

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

Malpractice 2023

From the team that brought us Line Of Duty comes this medical thriller very much in the same vein but set in a hospital. A female doctor is spiraling out of control as she tries to deal with her own drug dependency issues wile servicing a busy A&E dept. Needless to say it has plenty of plot twists and some very brutal stuff re drugs that is not for the feint hearted. Most well known actor present is James Purefoy with quite a small role considering his general stature. However his character becomes key as the plot unravels. Entertaining but don't take it too seriously! 7.5/10

The Consultant 8 episodes

This is something of an oddity having been developed as a dark comedy but in truth there is very little comedy to speak of. Christoph Waltz plays a very 'far out' business consultant with some radical ideas. He's extremely perverse in his actions (sexually and everything else) and doesn't appear to have any inhibitions or worries about potential HR issues. It's just plain weird, I struggled to understand the point and at the end of the day Waltz's character is just a sociopath and that's it. I imagine some might like this better than I did. 5/10

Finished se01 of The White Lotus the other night - very enjoyable, if a tad weird at times. I'll let that one digest before watching series 2 in Sicily.

Shadow and Bone series 2. I could barely remember series 1 it was that long ago (2 years lol) and it started without a recap so I had to read a synopsis of the first series. Based on the books of the same name it creates an interesting world with some strange characters. It's developed to have 2 story arcs: the main one being a dullish teen adventure, the second an odd gang of reprobates with a mission unknown as yet - but much more thrilling. There are 3 books in the series, so probably another series to come yet. Not too shabby - 7/10

^ I just had to look that up! The lady portrayed on the motorcycle is called Sister Simone as played by the wonderful actress Betty Gilpin (starred in the Netflix retrospective drama GLOW or otherwise Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling) . Read the synopsis and it should be fun!

Not long ago watched Locke and Key, Shadow and Bone, Midnight Club, and The Irregulars.......all were decent... really enjoyed the Irregulars....strange mix of a Sherlock Holmes variation with the supernatural.

At my wife's behest we started on series 1 of White Lotus. Not the sort of TV we normally go for, it's mainly sci-fi or horror for us. But this is rather enjoyable and quite funny at times. We could have done without an eyeful of cock and balls in the the first episode though lol. Hawaii looks gorgeous too.

Ultimate Force

I just bought Season 4 of Ultimate Force, so I can look forward to watching the communal shower scene again with Heather Peace, with Home Secretary David Blunkett and his guide dog looking on, so to speak.

Yellowstone Season 2

If you like a modern western you'll like this. Kevin Costner plays the head of a patriarchal family that own a massive ranch in Montana. I've mentioned before that this has some uncanny resemblances to another great show Succession. He has 3 boys and one girl, the girl played brilliantly by British actress Kelly Reilly. Also some notable supporting actors especially the ever wonderfull Danny Huston. Season 2 contains one of the best episodes of TV you will ever likely to see as Reilly's character Beth is attacked in her office by 2 masked men. It's totally brutal but a must watch if you care about quality TV drama. 9/10

^ Yes, I'm looking forward to season 2 of Yellowjackets. But as always I'll wait until the whole lot has dropped before starting - same for Se04 of Succession.

There was never going to be a clear resolution I think because it was always very 'hokey' and the ride was the thing. I note that Lauren Ambrose has popped up in season 2 of Yellowjackets. Highly recommended, also includes Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis having an absolute blast!
