Yes, who would've guessed that VDGG would finish up ahead of ELP, Camel & Renaissance, or that Henry Cow would be in the Top 20 ahead of Caravan. Ouch

That makes us even then with five bands each in the eventual Top 20 and at least we both agree on Pink Floyd being in third place, even if we disagree on almost everything else. Big smile

Rush
Porcupine Tree
Anekdoten
King Crimson
Pink Floyd
Soft Machine
Genesis
VDGG
Fates Warning
It's that tenth band that has been driving me crazy because I've got five that all could easily go there. Not one stands out. First nine are golden though.
Caravan, Hatfield And The North, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Nucleus and One Shot.
Going Mahavishnu Orchestra today for that tenth spot. 15 would have been easier.Stern Smile

13 studio albums and 17 live albums, they have a ton of live albums.

According to RYM 326 live albums though that is probably understated

I'm still working on Western Culture (1979) and I'm kind of fascinated by it, but I would surely like it to be a bit more rocky.

For me that's their masterpiece, top 5 album all-time for me. Though it took me about a decade to 'get it'.

Please explain what it means to 'get it'. And why would you devote a decade to force yourself to listen? Never has further listens changed my initial opinion of an album. But that's just me and usually I'm the outcast.

Personally I find some albums difficult but interesting enough to stick with. I play them once or twice a year and I either eventually give up on them or they click. When I was in my teens a lot of what I listen to now was too extreme for my palate. My tastes have broadened significantly over the years and I continue to challenge myself. It's just the way it works for me personally.

Something like that has certainly worked over the years for me too, and I have very good experience in various ways with doing it. Smile

I have to admit, Grumpy, that I like to be fond of and have at least one album from as many of the very appreciated bands as possible,
but that's just a matter of personal preferences, even it has some advantages. Smile
