The album cover art for Steve Vai's Passion And Warfare is awful. It's not the way the album really looks. It's dark and murky. This is what's here. This is the way it's supposed to look. I've owned this on LP, cassette and CD so i'm an expert! PLEASE SOMEBODY CHANGE IT!!!! |

^ Thanks, done. I've found an even better-looking image. By the way, the guitar design seems to be different on many releases...

Hi everyone.
Usually, Mayer's additions to the database are top-notch, but there is something pretty weird this time. Almost all recent additions on the Steve Hughes page are missing cover arts. As of now, I'm counting 19 entries with no cover art! Sure, I can fix them all, but I'm wondering what's causing this issue??

Just as a side note, regarding Steve Vai's album art work here above: it is interesting to see that nowadays the norm seems to be to have very crisp, neat and highly contrasted images. This is what the digital age has imposed on us (tv- and computer screens especially, high resolution detail...). Personally, I'm not convinced that the second image is "better". It definitely is more neat, crisp and contrasted, but that doesn't necessarily make a "better" image. I don't need to see the pimps on his face... It is a heated debate in film restoration circles (for example), where some tend to make old films look like if they were produced today and as such are not respecting what was intended in the past, or just what was done in the past... Higher resolution is not necessarily better - "image" is not about mathematics!

Julien, sometimes after adding the album cover images don't appear. I don't know why, but it rarely happens. Strange that Mayer didn't report the problem.

I have sometimes found that images placed in posts won't display. They generally have long URLs such as images from Google. |

Collabs can reload images and edit info, non-collabs can't.

As far as I can tell, this usually happens if when inserting an image the URL type (http or https) isn't chosen correctly. (By default PA's Inset Image dialog offers http.)

I made a mistake uploading the album cover file for Irmin Schmidt - Filmmusik Anthology Volume 6; somehow I uploaded the file for Anthology 1, 2 & 3, but it should be this: It seems I can't edit the file, even though I can edit everything else. By the way, in case somebody wonders why I put this and Anthology 4 & 5 under "Studio Albums" whereas Anthology Vol. 1, 2 & 3 is under Samplers/Boxsets, this is because Vol. 1, 2 & 3 is a sampler with material from earlier released albums, whereas tracks on Vol. 6 are all released for the first time, and Vol. 4 & 5 has well more than 70% new material. I hope that's OK. |

^ I updated all 3 cover arts with better resolution images from Bandcamp.
I guess the compil / studio classification is OK.

^^ In my opinion Filmmusik Anthology Volume 4 & 5 and Filmmusik Anthology Volume 6 suit better to Compilations, though I'm not an expert in Irmin Schmidt's music.

Thanks for the updating of the images! It's true that the way the Filmmusik Anthology series is set up suggests that these are samplers and the first one surely is. But Vol. 6 has 100% material that was released there first, not a sampler in my view. It is a kind of compilation from several soundtracks, however none of these was on an album before, and also Irmin's first original "regular" Filmmusik albums were put together like this. Vol. 4 & 5 is a borderline case; this has seven tracks from the earlier release Palermo Shooting, but the majority of tracks there appeared on the Anthology first (and mostly only on that album). |

^ Formally both "Vol. 4 & 5" and "Vol. 6" are compilations, because even a collection of tracks recorded in different times, even if they are previously unreleased, is anyway a compilation.
I can live though if these releases will stay under Studio albums. That's why I didn't move them to Compilations.

Good point here. Now I think we should move them to compilations...

The image used for "People You Were Going To / Firebrand" by Van Der Graaf Generator has quite poor resolution.
