So weird. I know it's their proggiest but it's still a complete mess and not really very good. A typical three star album for me.
That's something we can both agree on. ELO 2 is a typical 3-star album for me too, along with ELO's first and third albums. It's only from the Discovery (or Disco Very) album onwards that I started buying ELO's albums. Smile

Really? You can't stand their debut or "On the Third Day"?

1. Time
2. The Electric Light Orchestra/No Answer
3. On the Third Day (the version including Showdown)
4. Eldorado
5. Out of the Blue
6. A New World Record
7. Discovery

Also quite good:

8. Face the Music
9. ELO 2

I noticed there's not much love for the magical kingdom of Xanadu here. I was the only one who included the album in their Top 7. Cry

1. Xanadu
2. Out of the Blue
3. Time
4. Discovery
5. A New World Record
6. Face the Music
7. Secret Messages

There aren't seven ELO albums I like.

Eldorado
ELO 2
Face the Music

And call it a day. The rest I can't stand.

Yes, I'm afraid so. I prefer the Xanadu phase. Smile

sorry don't give much of a damn after that although Living Thing and Mr Blue Sky are admittedly rather wonderful moments . The original group (with Roy Wood in) was something special.

That's true. Afterall once Roy Wood left the band ELO became a singles band and they lose their proggy edge. You take Eldorado which a lot of people like here. It may be a concept album but really there's a couple of singles in it. That's all. Jeff Lynne wrote good singles. He has never been able to write good albums.

I don't think Roy Wood brought the progressive edge in the early ELO, especially if you hear his first few solo albums (including Wizzard)

But in essence, I agree that ELO2 and No Answer (the debut) are miles ahead their best, and until Eldorado & Face The Music, they're OK.... after that they went hits & pop (or pop & hits) - not that they weren't before.

content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,

rather than un-sheath our sword

Tbh, Doc, I only know the hits from the radio. I've never owned an ELO album. Not even a greatest hits LP! LOL
The first one sounds a bit like The Move..Roy Wood was still with them.
The second has the Roll Over Beethoven suite and some other good tracks.
They do a cover of an old Move song on New World Record called Do Ya...prolly written by Lynne for the Move.
The first one with Roy Wood sounds the most interesting. Is it any good?

I like it...it has a Move vibe and sound....I also like the second one.

One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.
