I've always loved Yes (Well Debut thru Drama at least; I'll take a rain check on all that came afterwards and judge it on an individual basis). I even think Tormato is better than it gets credit for...
but I have always struggled with TFTO. Relayer, I have few problems with, even though it's a bit self-indulgent in places, but TFTO? I've recently given it another half dozen listens and honestly? There really is only enough decent material here for another 40 minute album. I think this must be where The Flower Kings got their inspiration for surplus padding for their double albums from...

Every YES album from Talk (1994) onwards is by far the best YES era for me, with the rare exception of Open Your Eyes, obviously. 1996: Keys to Ascension - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzC4voV-c6RU3I8Xdmk1dS4O 1997: Keys to Ascension 2 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzDJPQzzWA9iZ6sXBpMYcZGp 1997: Open Your Eyes - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzBn_m8kcA5PXSLw5T5ChFd_ 1999: The Ladder - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzDrkA7mJgNNBk3PjMTzvZnV 2000: House of Yes - Live from House of Blues - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzAGhOxECODweJmeB85ju0eV 2001: Magnification - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzAuwaZ2oTty65iuP2Bu1aIB 2002: Yes Symphonic Live - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzA5-q5kiyzRw5GyeftC7Iw8 2003: Live at Montreux - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzAEXpOFjLGHzl5TvJkhdPE2 2004: Songs from Tsongas - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzCMMFkZ-mNrLpht8f3RRWK7 2011: Fly from Here - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzCIeG4w8NTFMBGBDxSAeRCU 2011: Union Live 1991 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzBAJDmEJSXDmk1UXbdXIOXT 2014: Heaven & Earth - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzAP7E-W-r_KZXpJdqs9hn_k 2014: Like It Is - Yes at the Bristol Hippodrome - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzBy9uyRERs-I1GDFW4lDa2z 2015: Like It Is - Yes at the Mesa Art Centre - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzCKc4OxC4JZC4-Gq1UEAq93 2018: Yes 50 - Live at the Apollo - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLikNHjJ_cxzBYSUsok346p8fvJgYrp8_4 Edited by Psychedelic Paul - October 21 2022 at 04:19 |

Now, if someone would like to explain why this is embarrassing? I do enjoy an occasional bit of Sky.. Someone will be diving into this thread and tell me that Alan Parsons Project is rubbish next. Oh, wait... we've already been there.

This thread perfectly epitomizes why I enjoy this site so much: the diversity of views/opinions!
Of course, if you're sharing your "embarrassments" on a site that can be accessed anywhere you have a computer, then they're no longer secrets. By the way, I absolutely LOVE Mike Oldfield's "Music from the Balcony"! And the whole Heaven's Open album!

My Guilty secret - but not a secret any more - is I once gave Michael Oldfield's Heaven's Open album away to a charity shop and I've never regretted it. |

I will stand by my opinion that Claude Debussy & Martin Denny (among many others) are truly Progressive. cheers!

I am tremendously devoted to the two Genesis albums Trespass and And Then There Were Three, but what came in between the two albums kind of leaves me cold.

I like classic PFM a lot, but my favorite PFM track is a synth pop number from 1984.

My favourite track from Split Enz - Mental Notes is the pop song "Maybe". This was the track I first heard on the radio and introduced me to the group. In spite of all the prog on the album, I still love this track the most. |

My embarrassing opinion is that Genesis have never done better than Trespass, that is a little masterpiece of melodic prog rock. Basically, they are a group of tremendously serious and competent but also tremendously boring musicians... particularly Banks. Peter Gabriel, alone, starting from III and up to.... Up, did better than Genesis.

I've got an idea. I'm not happy about much Pop-influenced Prog, but I don't think, it's a secret at this point of time.

The first two King Crimson albums do very little for me - it's not for lack of musicianship but simply boring writing of Fripp's part. it's not until Lizard and especially Islands that Fripp begins to come into his own composition-wise, just wish the initial lineup had been around to record both those LPs......ahhh, one can only imagine.
