Some good bands there, but who are the turnips?

Remember when Sweden beat England at football (soccer to our American friends) and the headline in The Sun the next day was "Swedes 2 - Turnips 1" Tongue
But why "turnips"?
Swedes is the English name for the rutabaga root vegetable, England played like a bunch of root vegetables, hence turnips.

thanks

After having looking at the toplists I've made, it certainly doesn't seem to me accidental that you made so relatively many US discoveries from this decade.

I've listened to two bands so far from my first  "Recent Prog Discoveries 1980-1999 list (The Par Lindh Project & Citizen Cain) and Simon Says I should' start with Sweden on this list too. Wink

Paul, I'm sorry to tell you that as fond as I am of the British Prog from the 70's, the modern one
has completely lost me so far.

When looking closer at my list, it shows that of the modern Prog, the American is my fave so far, while even not
one Danish album has found place in my heart yet - but neither British or German, and only one Italian, so my
national Prog preferences have completely changed, for whatever reasons.

Sorry there weren't any Danish sizzlers on my list, but at least I still have a half-century of The Savage Rose's albums to look forward to hearing for the first time. Smile
