Following on from Recent Prog Discoveries 1980-1999, these are some of the "new" artists I've discovered from my recent series of Post-1970's Prog polls. Predictably, the list is heavy on the symphonic again and very light on anything that's remotely avant garde or metallic. There's a surprisingly strong showing for the Swedes in this list but with barely any showing at all for the turnips. Agents of Mercy Symphonic Prog Sweden 2009-2011 All Traps on Earth Symphonic Prog Sweden 2018 Anima Mundi Symphonic Prog Cuba 2002-2018 Arcane Heavy Prog Australia 2007-2015 Arion Symphonic Prog Brazil 2001 Dave Bainbridge Crossover Prog United Kingdom 1998-2021 Birds & Buildings Eclectic Prog United States 2008-2013 Cairo Symphonic Prog United States 1994-2001 Caligonaut Crossover Prog Norway 2021 Clepsydra Neo Prog Switzerland 1991-2019 Daal Eclectic Prog Italy 2009-2022 Darwin's Radio Neo Prog United Kingdom 2006-2009 The Dear Hunter Crossover Prog United States 2006-2022 The Decemberists Prog Folk United States 2002-2018 Deluge Grander Symphonic Prog United States 2006-2020 Drifting Sun Neo Prog United Kingdom 1996-2021 Evership Neo Prog United States 2016-2022 Flying Colors Prog Related United States 2012-2019 Gazpacho Crossover Prog Norway 2003-2020 Glass Hammer Symphonic Prog United States 1993-2022 Haken Heavy Prog United Kingdom 2010-2020 Hidria Spacefolk Space Rock Finland 2002-2012 Hypnos 69 Space Rock Belgium 2001-2010 I Am the Morning Crossover Prog Russia 2012-2019 Index Symphonic Prog Brazil 1999-2004 Izz Symphonic Prog United States 1999-2019 Kaipa Symphonic Prog Sweden 1975-2022 Antony Kalugin Symphonic Prog Ukraine 2008-2022 Karfagen Symphonic Prog Ukraine 2006-2022 Karmakanic Symphonic Prog Sweden 2002-2016 Knight Area Neo Prog Netherlands 2004-2022 Kotebel Symphonic Prog Spain 1999-2017 Little Tragedies Symphonic Prog Russia 1999-2019 Magic Pie Symphonic Prog Norway 2005-2019 Monomyth Space Rock Netherlands 2013-2019 Moon Safari Symphonic Prog Sweden 2005-2013 Morpheus Project Crossover Prog Multi-National 2021 Neal Morse Symphonic Prog United States 1999-2021 Mystery Neo Prog Canada 1996-2018 Nemrud Space Rock Turkey 2010-2016 Nexus Symphonic Prog Argentina 1999-2017 Not a Good Sign Eclectic Prog Italy 2013-2018 Phideaux Crossover Prog United States 1992-2020 The Pineapple Thief Crossover Prog United Kingdom 1999-2022 Proto-Kaw Symphonic Prog United States 2004-2011 Sanguine Hum Neo Prog United Kingdom 2010-2020 Satellite Neo Prog Poland 2003-2009 Seven Reizh Symphonic Prog France 2001-2018 Shamblemaths Eclectic Prog Norway 2016-2021 Silhouette Neo Prog Netherlands 2006-2017 Silver Lining Symphonic Prog France 2004 Simon Says Symphonic Prog Sweden 1995-2008 Southern Empire Crossover Prog Australia 2016-2018 Sylvan Neo Prog Germany 1999-2021 Taal Eclectic Prog France 2000-2003 Trespass Symphonic Prog Israel 2002-2006 The Windmill Heavy Prog Norway 2010-2018

Btw, I'd say that Taal's Skymind (2003), which I'm fond of, is both metallic and avantgardish.

Remember when Sweden beat England at football (soccer to our American friends) and the headline in The Sun the next day was "Swedes 2 - Turnips 1" To be honest, I think the reason there are only two English bands in my list is simply because I've "discovered" most of them already.

Yes, that's the one exception amongst 22 Symphonic Prog bands.

I can also conclude, Paul, that you've been much around geographically speaking which I find to be very good and exiting.

^ Thanks for the recommendations. From your list, I've listened to all of the albums by Anekdoten, Ayreon, The Flower Kings, Frost*, Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, Steve Hackett, The Tangent, Transatlantic and Wobbler.
Echolyn and White Willow are already on my Recent Prog Discoveries list for the years 1980-1999.

Yes, Sweden has beaten England 5-2 in this line-up and Das Boot is on zee other foot for the Germans too with only one band (Sylvan) in the list, and having included a Russian band (the ironically named Little Tragedies), I couldn't forget my Ukraine Ways with Karfagen. I'm sure it won't surprise you to know that I've never heard of any of those five bands.

Swedes is the English name for the rutabaga root vegetable, England played like a bunch of root vegetables, hence turnips.

I've just added Haken to the list at the top of the page. I had no idea they were British until today, so I've added them to my Prog Britannia playlists too.

You must have read my mind. I was just about to mention Sanguine Hum, having added them to my playlists after you mentioned them recently. With a name like Sanguine Hum though, I had no idea they were British up until last week. I've also added Sanguine Hum to the list at the top of the page, along with Haken.
