Attention
Hamerheads!
Dispatch
just in from the Department of Has It Really Been Less Than A Week? Department: Happy to announce that there will be more airing of Tom's music today, Tuesday, 25 January on Chuck Simon's Progrock For Beginners Artist Submission show on, you probably have guessed, Progrock.com. The show will be on at a slightly altered time to allow friend of many in the progressive rock community, Tatsurou Ueda, to attend, as he is one of the featured artists among the many others who have become friends of ours over the years who will appear here. Chat is now over at Discord, and you can access that from the homepage, should you wish to join in there. Showtime is 5PM - 8PM PT and can be found at the following link to Progrock.com: https://progrock.com/ Due to the close proximity
of the last Missive from Mars, I only have two other Martian sightings to
report, one was of course, Friday Night Progressive's show of last Friday, 21
January. During that show, pretty much everyone in the US who uses Comcast/Xfinity
as their internet provider was prevented from hearing audio until right before
the end of the show, which was when apparently, there was perhaps, some ghostly
intervention, or Martian mediation, and the sound came back, allowing even
those in the US to hear "The Fork Suite," generously selected by
Ronald Marquiss that evening. Friday Night Progressive is on every
Friday, 6PM - 8PM PT. Link to Friday Night Progressive: https://fridaynightprogressive.com/ Next day, 22 January, Mike
Sherrill's W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation featured "Staring It In The Face (Pt
1)," on his show. WTAU airs every Saturday from 4PM - 7PM on Twitch
TV. Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation I hope to see some PA folks at this show, any interested in what some indie proggers are up to will find lots to love here. These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music. LOL! It's just a name a friend coined for people who enjoy Tom's music. Kind of like Parrot Heads are fans of Jimmy Buffet. His middle name was "Hamer," which is pronounced, "Hay-mer." We all called him Hamer as often as we called him Tom. So it's a play on of hammerhead (shark) and his middle name. |

Attention Hamerheads! Life on
the Red Planet Continues: From the
Department of The Music of the Spheres Finds Martian Music Manifesting
Department:
Paul Higgins has kindly given us some rare advance warning of a Martian sighting on his Aquarian Moons show, set for today, Saturday 19 February. Paul's show is primarily space and progressive music, explore it beginning at 11AM PST, for 3 hours (even though there are no hours in space). Paul also played "Spinning Through Eternity," on his show of last week on 12 February. Check both of them out on Spreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/show/aquarian-moons_2?fbclid=IwAR3FkHWsIUMZAYitAdTK6WGdECOmIPyipT7IFzxeonBK-3yWzjNBFnFVl7o In other news, airplay has continued since the last Martian Missive, starting with Chuck Simons' Artist Submissions show on Progrock.com, on 25 January. This show airs every few months, along with several other fine shows appearing more regularly that Chuck brings to the station. Several pieces were featured, "The Wayfarer (Part 3)," "Travels (Parts 1, 2 & 3)," "West Fork," and "The Fork Boogie," all from A Quail's House. Link to Progrock.com: https://progrock.com/ Note that
Chuck has added a feature of "Nickie's Niches," to his Top 10 Show on
Progrock.com as well. This features my Bandcamp purchases of the previous
month, to coincide just prior to Bandcamp Friday. Chuck reads my
mini-reviews and plays my chosen selection from each purchase. That show
airs on the Tuesday before the first Friday of each month, from 8AM - 10 AM
PST. When I figure out how to use Audacity, I hope to do my own voice
portion, but while I am learning, am handing the reins over to Chuck. Also on 25 January, Steve Swayne over at House of Prog chose to play Dyanne Potter's wonderful solo piano cover of "Catherine," on his 7th House Show. Dyanne's version of this and other solo piano pieces will be released later this year. Steve's show is every Monday, from 5PM - 7:30PM PST. Link to House of Prog: https://houseofprog.com/ Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation has continued with his playing of Tom's music, to wit: on 29 January, 5 February and 11 February, respectively, he selected "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats," The Tolling of St. John's Bells," and "The Fork," for airplay. Mike's show is on every Saturday on Twitch TV from 4PM - 8PM PST. The show on the 5th was a feature listen to and interview with Temple of Switches, regarding the excellent new release "Four." Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation 30 January saw the Martian on The Moon once again, this time Aural Moon, where "The Wayfarer (Part 4) landed in rotation, then again on 5 February along came "A Bookwife's Dream of Her Own Imposter, Chapter 1." Aural Moon is 24/7 progressive music and can be found at: http://auralmoon.com// Stuffer White, who's pretty much been on hiatus for quite some time, added a repeat "rewind," Light Without Heat show on 6 February, which included "The Keys." Light Without Heat appears on Sundays from 4PM - 7PM PST. Hopefully Stuffer will pick up the ball again and bring some new shows soon. This is another 24/7 station and lives at: https://progressiverockazusa.com/ As always, thank you to everyone who listens and shares and keeps the spirit of music alive with me. Attention Hamerheads!
From The Department of Pondering Various Significances Department: Do they have birthdays in space? I'm wondering, and have figured that I'll bet they don't (have birthdays in space). For instance, writing out the year alone would require, you guessed it, lots of space. And I don't think there's enough paper for that. However, I hear space does have music. As will the space around you if you tune in to Alex Cruzeta's show today, Monday 28 March, from 5PM - 9PM PST. Opening the show will be a set that will include some music of Tom's for your earses, so don't be late. Check your pocketwatches and I am sure you will hear some frabjous notes and maybe even dance a bit. One two three, one two three. Link to Deep Nuggets:https://deepnuggets.com/ Additionally, there is a show that I participate in a bit, a request show on Progrock.com. Rather than bringing mostly known artists there, the artists I suggest are usually a bit more obscure. Chuck Simons' Progrock for Requesters is on Wednesdays from 11AM - 2PM PST, this week, on the 30th, he is on to the letter K. Which I brought our favourite Martian to. Quite possibly, he will get as far as the Tom piece I requested, but it may be the next week, there may be lots of KAs to attend to, what with a certain band, who also hailed from the US. Anyway, it's a show that is extremely varied and fun, if you've got the time. Link to Progrock.com:https://progrock.com/ In other news, since the last Martian Missive, Tom's music has still been making the rounds, albeit the orbits are slowing a bit. In other news since the last Martian Missive, Paul Higgins chose to play "The Wayfarer (Part One)," on his Aquarian Moons space/prog/psych show on 19 February. Aquarian Moons is on Spreaker on Saturdays from noon until 3PM PST. Link to podcast:https://www.spreaker.com/show/aquarian-moons_2 Tom got other airplay, the same day, on Tony Romero's show on House of Prog radio. He elected "Remains of Childhood Lost," and "A Bookwife's Dream of Her Own Imposter: Dedication," in a double play. Tony's show is also on Saturdays, 10AM - 1PM PST. Link to House of Prog: https://houseofprog.com/ Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation has continued to have Tom's music on his show, and played "Ma and Pa Kettle Go To Hell," on 26 February; "Staring It in the Face (Part 1)," on 5 March; "The Tolling of St John's Bells," on 19 March; and "A Slight Overture of Sorts," on 26 March. WTAU airs every Saturday on Twitch Television, from 4PM - 7PM PST. Link to WTAU (and podcasts):https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation Aural Moon had Tom in triple rotation this past 30 days, with "Staring It in the Face (Part One)," on 27 February; "Travels (Part One)," on 20 March; and on 26 March, "Forward," appeared on the 24/7 progressive music station. Link to Aural Moon:http://auralmoon.com// Lastly, a bit aside from Tom, I will be doing another episode of "Nickie's Niches," this coming Tuesday (29 March) on Chuck Simons' "Top 10," show on Progrock.com., running from 8AM - 10AM PST This time, you will hear my voice, as I read the mini-reviews, and there were a couple of tongue-twisters, but overall, not bad for a first time. This show focuses mainly on Bandcamp purchases over the past month, to give lesser-known artists some needed exposure, but I do also discuss some others that I find of merit, when it suits me. Meant to coincide with Bandcamp Friday, originally, I will continue this show when and if they come to a conclusion with them. As always, thank you to everyone who listens and shares and keeps the spirit of music alive with me. These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music. Attention Hamerheads!
From the Department of Escalations and Maximizations of Celebrations Department, this just beamed in: This today, 29 April, Friday Night Progressive will be airing their 500th show from 6PM - 8PM PDT and included in the celebration will be some music of Tom's. Friday Night Progressive has been a staunch supporter of Tom's music and I'm very happy that he is included along with so many other great artists for this special show. You will hear so much wonderful indie music, I highly suggest tuning in if you can, the roster is impressive. Link to FNP:https://fridaynightprogressive.com/ In other news, airplay since the last Martian Missive included, on 28 March, "Staring It in the Face, Part 2," and on 16 April, "Remains of Childhood Lost," in rotation on AZUSA Progressive Rock Radio. AZUSA is a 24/7 progressive music station and can be found at: https://progressiverockazusa.com/ he 7th House, which appears on House of Prog radio on Mondays, 5PM - 7:30PM PDT, and is hosted by Steve Swayne, selected "Catherine," covered by the wonderful Dyanne Potter, on 29 March. This was in honour of my birthday, but aired next day due to some scheduling conflicts for the host. House of Prog also has several other hosted shows, and is another 24/7 station. Link to House of Prog:https://houseofprog.com/ Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation, airing on Twitch Television, Saturdays from 4PM - 7PM PDT chose to present "Forward," on 12 April, and also "The Fork," on 23 April. Mike presents quite a variety of indie music each and every week. Link to WTAU:https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation 24/7 station, Aural Moon, played "God & the Flatlanders (Waltz Version)," in rotation on 17 April. Jim Brennan, station owner, presents a great variety of progressive and jazz-tinged progressive music. AM can be located at: http://auralmoon.com// Chuck Simons' Prog Rock for Requesters show, on Progrock.com, who is working through mostly progressive music alphabetically, played 2 tracks of Tom's on 20 April, both "God & the Flatlanders (Celtic Version) and "The Tolling of St John's Bells," to great acclaim in the chat room, as well as being heard over the netwaves, of course. Progrock.com is 24/7 as well, they play a huge variety of progressive and related music, as well as presenting many hosted shows (several are Chuck's). Link to progrock.com:https://progrock.com/ Lastly, a bit aside from Tom, I will be doing another episode of "Nickie's Niches," this coming Tuesday (3 May) on Chuck Simons' "Top 10," show on Progrock.com., running from 8AM - 10AM PDT This show focuses mainly on Bandcamp purchases over the past month, to give lesser-known artists some needed exposure, but I do also discuss some others that I find of merit, when it suits me. Meant to coincide with Bandcamp Friday, originally, I will continue this show even when they discontinue the practice, this should be the last month, unless they change they minds and extend it. As always, thank you to everyone who listens and shares and keeps the spirit of music alive with me. These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music. Attention Hamerheads!
This just in from the Department of Weighty Missives Department, Whodathunk There'd Be A Tom Kelly Tune Covered and Wow What a Fantastic Rendition It Is Department: Yes, you read that right. Dyanne Potter Voegtlin took on the incredible task of covering Tom Kelly's "Catherine." Potter's Daughter's, "Weighted Keys," is officially being released on Friday, 19 August. They also cover both Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell on this EP, and I am so pleased to announce that it is finally out and it is stunning. Here is a link to their Bandcamp page: https://officialpottersdaughter.bandcamp.com/album/weighted-keys. I am so honoured that she has prepared this lovely solo piano track. For those of you who aren't familiar with her work, she and her various projects are very respected in the prog world, and with good reason. It is a fantastic tribute to Tom and his music. I hope many of you will be inspired to support her effort, you'll discover a fantastic artist, if you don't already know her. As I was typing this in advance (actually on 9 August), Potter's Daughter's "Catherine," is already getting airplay, it is the only pre-release piece available from the band, until the official release. First station/show to play it was Isaac Banks on his Sweet Sunday Sounds show on Valley FM 89.5 in Canberra, Australia. Koalas appear out of nowhere? And since (just prior to sending), it's been on several other shows/stations these past 10 days. Wishing Dyanne fabulous success with this EP! In other news, it's been quite a while since I've had advanced notice of airplay, but Tom's music is still being played in rotation on several shows and stations. Friday Night Progressive, airing Fridays (d'oh!) from 6PM - 8PM PT played "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats on 29 April, and also during a rerun of their 2020 Indie Prog Awards show on 6 May. Currently, every few weeks, the nominees for the 2021 Indie Prog Awards is airing, last week, the first installment covering the small fields of Vocals and Fusion hit the netwaves. This year, I have additional responsibilities, in being one of the judges, no easy task. Link to Friday Night Progressive:https://fridaynightprogressive.com/ Still spinning Tom tunes frequently is Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation. This show is seen on Twitch TV on Saturdays, from 4PM - 7PM PT. 30 April, "A Book Wife's Dream of Her Own Imposter: Dedication;" 7 May and 16 July, "Cows Appear Out Of Nowhere;" 4 June, "The Fork Boogie"; 11 June "God And The Flatlanders: Celtic Version; 25 June "The Fork;" 2 July "The Wayfarer Suite;" 6 August, "Love Is Money;" and on 13 August, "A Book Wife's Dream of her Own Imposter ~ Forward," all made their way to Mike's playlists. Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation Aural Moon continues Hamer's music in rotation, AM is 24/7 prog and related music. 13 May saw "Spinning Through Eternity," 4 June included "Fugue In B Minor;" and following that, 26 June, "Travels Part 3;" 1 July, "Cows Appear Out of Nowhere;" 23 July "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats;" and on 14 August, "The Keys," all found their way to The Moon. Link to Aural Moon:http://auralmoon.com// AZUSA Progressive Radio also keeps Tom rotating, or is that spinning? No matter. They have played "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats" on 20 May, "Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins," began or ended or whatever and also heard tell of "Burnt Peas (Parts 1 and 2) being played on 15 August. AZUSA is 24/7 and can be found at: https://progressiverockazusa.com/ Paul Higgins saw fit to add some Tom Kelly a few times on his Aquarian Moons show, which is on hiatus for now. I had the pleasure of meeting him and his lovely wife, Anita, a couple of months ago, for lunch over in Forest Grove. He played "A Slight Overture of Sorts," on 13 May; "Chapter One: A Bookwife," on 4 June; and "Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins," on 25 June. We hope he'll be returning soon. Kev Slaymaker over at Between Two Worlds on CRMK radio in the UK saw fit to include "The Fork,"on 30 May and "The Keys," on 4 July. Between Two Worlds airs on Mondays from Noon until 3PM PT and can be found at this link, during that time: https://www.crmk.co.uk/ Lastly, but not leastly, Stuffer White included "Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins," on a rerun of Light Without Heat. This show airs on Sundays, 4PM - PM PT on Spreaker. Attention Hamerheads!
From the Department of Advanced Notice of Airplay Ahead of Time Department, this just in: The lovely Alex Cruzeta has let me know that there will be a tune of Tom's on his Monday Chemistry Sets show tonight, 5PM - 9PM PT on Deep Nuggets Radio. Alex is so much fun to listen to, he does a mix of rock and pop and soul and prog, and everything in between. Prog Hour is about the second hour in, typically, but why not come along for the whole ride? Link to Deep Nuggets Radio: https://deepnuggets.com/ In other news, the Potter's Daughter beautiful cover of "Catherine," has been getting tons of airplay all over. If you haven't heard it yet, you can give a listen here for free:https://officialpottersdaughter.bandcamp.com/album/weighted-keys On 19 August, Aural Moon played "A Bookwife's Dream," in rotation on their 24/7 progressive station. Link to Aural Moon:http://auralmoon.com// Prog Rock for Beginners' Chuck Simons elected to air "Forward," to close his show on 30 August. Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation We are approaching the unbelievable 5 year anniversary of Tom's heading to the stars, and 4 years since the release of these recordings. I continue to be grateful to all of the hosts, reviewers, and friends, and especially Kevin Feeley for his introductions all around. These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music. Attention Hamerheads!
This just in from the Department of Momentous Memoriam Continuing Upcoming Airplay Trinity Department: I have received advanced notice that Tom's music will enjoy airplay on 3 shows today, Saturday, 17 September. Following are the shows' info and links. Tony Romero has said that he will curate a set on his DJ Tony's show on House of Prog. That show airs from 10AM - 1PM PT, has a lively chat and a wide variety of music, delving into metal, jazz and soul, as well as prog. Link to House of Prog: https://houseofprog.com/ Later in the day, Mike Sherrill mentioned to me that he is considering playing one of the suites on his W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation show on Twitch television. His show is probably the most varied of the shows that feature prog, he includes metal and sometimes even bluegrass from time to time. That show will commence from 4PM - 7PM PT. Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation Thirdly, Juls of Prog Rock Nation will be replaying her Show #29 over at KTAL Las Cruces terrestrial radio. This show featured many fine progressive artists, including Tom, of course, and she does play a few tunes of his in a row. PRN airs from 7PM - 9PM PT, here is the link to the station: https://www.lccommunityradio.org/?fbclid=IwAR19kXXe9SPhJrl5yF8ZeBQIlegrI5FavyOucVhRjnFQsUgYBayWXNiWCoM In other news: On 05 September, Alex Cruzeta chose to play "Spinning Through Eternity," on his Monday Chemistry Sets show. This show airs every Monday from 5PM to 9PM PT, on Deep Nuggets Radio, with the prog hour being the second(ish) hour in. Link to Deep Nuggets: https://www.deepnuggets.com/ Chuck Simons over at Progrock.com played both "The Wayfarer," and "West Fork," during his Progrock for Beginner show on 06 September. Airing every Tuesday from 3:30PM to 6:30PM PT, he features a myriad of "must hear," progressive rock bands. Link to Progrock.com:https://progrock.com/ Lastly, but certainly not leastly,10 September saw "Staring It In The Face (Part 2) receiving airplay on rotation on Aural Moon. Aural Moon is on 24/7 for your earses. As mentioned above, someone very kindly also requested "Spinning Through Eternity," on 15 September at 8:00AM PT. Link to Aural Moon: http://auralmoon.com// I am so grateful for the support and continued notice of Tom's music over the past 4 years since the release of the trilogy. That anniversary is just around the corner, with Burnt Peas and A Quail's house being released on 25 September and Spinning Through Eternity the next day, in 2018. Tom had died a little over a year before that, 15 September, 2017. Many people joined me in playing music of his in tribute yesterday, it was very moving to see how many. Thank you for still listening out there. These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music. Attention Hamerheads! Again? Why? And Why Not?
From the Department of Still Spinning in Nowhere with Random Cow Appearances Department, this just in: As part of the Artist Submission section of ProgRock for Beginners, Tom's "Spinning Through Eternity," will be sprinkled throughout the show, today, 4 October, from 3:30PM - 6:30 PM. The show is working through progressive rock year by year, Chuck Simons is now up to 2018, and also is featuring the wonderful Djam Karet's new album on the show. Should be a perfect mix. Don't miss it, but if you have to, there will be a podcast aftewards. Link to Progrock.com: https://progrock.com/ In other news, as promised, DJ Tony Romero featured the entire "Spinning Through Eternity," release on his show on House of Prog on 17 September. It was a completely unexpected and appreciated honour, lots of love for the music in the chatroom thdat day. His show is every week on Saturdays, from 10AM - 1PM PT and he plays a lot of great music. Link to House of Prog:https://houseofprog.com/ Mike Sherrill at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation also featured "The Wayfarer Suite" on his show, also on 17 SeptemberM; then on 1 October, he included "Staring It In The Face (Part 1)." Mike's show is incredibly varied (you may hear growling and bluegrass, and not necessarily in different sets). His show airs Saturdays from 4PM - 7PM PT on Twitch TV. Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation And Tom appeared on the airwaves a 3rd time on 17 September, on a replay of Prog Rock Nation's show on terrestrial radio KTAL out of Las Cruces, NM. Jules chose to play "A Bookwife's Dream of Her Own Imposter ~ Dedication," and "A Book Wife's Dream," off of Spinning Through Eternity, when she first introduced Tom to her audiences a couple of years ago. PRN can be found on Saturdays from 7PM - 9PM PT. Link to KTAL: https://www.lccommunityradio.org/ Chuck Simons' Prog Rock for Beginners show on 21 September closed the show with "Burnt Peas Finale," followed by "Burnt Peas Part 4;" then on his 27 September show, he closed with "God And The Flatlanders (Celtic Acoustic)," and "Staring It In The Face ~ Part 1." And, as mentioned above, he will be featuring "Spinning Through Eternity," on the show this week (4 October, 3:30PM - 6:30PM PT; for those with very short memory spans ). Link to ProgRock.com is at the start of this missive. And lastly, but not leastly, "The Fork Boogie," made a brief appearance on Aural Moon in their rotation on 1 October. Aural Moon is a 24/7 progressive and related station. Please check them out at their link: http://auralmoon.com// As always, my grateful thanks to all of you who have been of such tremendous support over all of these years! I cannot imagine having done this without those I knew, and those I have come to know so well, along for the ride. These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music. Attention Hamerheads! From the Department of Didn't They Just Put Out One Of These Last Week? Department, this just in: Yes, we did just put one out last week and had so much fun, we're doing it again! This one will be short and sweet, however, as there is not a ton of new news. I have been informed by Ronald Marquiss of Friday Night Progressive that Tom's music will appear on that fine show once again tonight, Friday, 28 October. As you probably know by now, FNP has championed Tom's music from the beginning of the releases, and it is so appreciated! Come along and join us 6PM - 8PMish PT, join the friendly chat as well, if you're so inclined. In this show, friend to us, Tenk Van Dool's Temple of Switches is also featured, going to be a great, great show! Link to Friday Night Progressive: https://fridaynightprogressive.com/ In other news, last week, Paul Higgin's chose to play "A Slight Overture of Sorts," on his Mushroom Hill Radio show (the show formerly known as Aquarian Moons). Paul has switched his showtimes again, now on Saturdays from 10AM - 1PM PT. The show features spacerock, psych, electronic and jam bands. Link to Mushroom Hill: https://www.spreaker.com/show/mushroom-hill-radio-networks-podcast Hope you find the time to come along to Friday Night Progressive, it's always a fun place to hang out on Fridays. Even if you don't come along to the chat, you will doubtless enjoy the music. Have a ghostly All Hallow's Eve! These shows are also good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.
