I just finished watching the old British series "UFO". What a great, but unfortunately short-lived, show. I like it more than the subsequent longer lived  British science fiction series "Space 1999".

I just finished watching the entire series of Ultimate Force - a four-season drama about the SAS (Special Air Service) starring Ross Kemp. The series is notable for having a woman (Heather Peace) qualify at SAS Selection for the very first time, where the mixed shower scene was the highlight of the show! Thumbs Up

The SAS motto:-  "Death is nature's way of telling you that you've failed Selection." Tongue

Silverpoint (2022 - Season 1 / 13 Episodes - UK): A kids show that is better and more interesting than Stranger Things, and withal smarter than Dark. I'm most pleasantly surprised! Were I a British kid now, this would probably be my favourite "thing". 9/10

^^ Finished Severance last night. Absolutely brilliant and a big wow at the final episode. An intelligent sci-fi written, acted and directed (mainly Ben Stiller) superbly. Bring on the next series.

^ Glad you like Severance , certainly one of the shows I very much enjoyed in recent times. At the moment The Boys and For All Mankind are doing the business for me.
Interested if anyone has an opinion on Halo. Paramount+ has just launched in the UK and I will likely subscribe to it at some point as they are investing heavily in sci-fi , my favorite genre while Netflix seem to have 'binned' all their sci-fi shows other than Stranger Things. When that's gone what then?

Just finished The Midwich Cuckoos too. I enjoyed it but preferred the movie from the 60s. Currently watching Severance - brilliant and loving it.

Yes I also recently binge watched The Midwich Cuckoo's. It was imo a good contemporary version of the story.

The Midwich Cuckoos Season 1 2022 7 episodes

Adaption of the John Wyndham book by the guy who wrote the Night Manager. Pretty solid stuff with good lead actors on Keeley Hawes (Life On Mars) and Max Beesley . If you don't know already, it's about creepy children that seem to have abilities beyond the norm. All are 'conceived' during a black out in the small 'sleepy' English village. Can't say much other than it fully delivers what you expect, and maybe that's an issue. No surprises but a fun and occasionally gory watch. 7/10

A couple of very nice offerings from Starzplay that I highly recommend

Gaslit Season 1 2022 8 episodes

A period piece going into the main characters around the Watergate scandal that eventually brought the Nixon administration down. Julia Roberts stars as Martha Mitchell , the suffering wife of the horribly misguided John Mitchell who largely instigated the whole mess (played unrecognisably in a fat suit by Sean Penn) . English actor Dan Stevens does a great job as whistle blower John Dean who later became a bit of a celebrity on US TV. I'm a fan of Penn's work and he is the stand out here. The more famous and almost comic G Gordon Liddy is also well portrayed by Shea Whigham. If there is any justice this should win a host of awards I think. 10/10

Tokyo Vice Season 1 2022 8 episodes

Another period true event series about American reporter Jake Apelstein. He worked for a Japanese newspaper around 20-25 years ago and investigated the Yakuza. Hopefully it's not too much of a spoiler that he is still alive and consulted heavily on this series. Very few well known actors in this as you would expect but equally brilliant production standards. I would have liked (and expected) at least 2 more episodes as the story stops too short. I assume season 2 is in the pipe line. 8/10

Open Range Season 1 (8 episodes)

Stars Josh Brolin. Perhaps one of the quirkier things I've recently. Stands up really well as a modern cowboy drama until you get stuff about time travelling and portals. Very strange but certainly not un-enjoyable. Also has a wicked twist which I obviously won't give away. 7/10

Undercover Season 3 8 episodes

Very enjoyable Dutch crime drama that reached a convincing conclusion. There is also a spin off series about one of the main characters (Ferry) but I've yet to see that.
7/10

Finished seasons 3 and 4 of The Expanse. Really great stuff. Now I need to seek out seasons 5 and 6 on DVD or Blu-ray.

Just started season 1 of The Outer Limits reboot that came out in 1995. They used to show this late on Saturday nights back then, but I missed many of the episodes. Found the complete series on DVD at Amazon for a good price. With 152 episodes, I'll be slowly progressing through this over the next couple of months.

Erşan Kuneri (2022 - Season 1 / 8 Episodes - Turkey): Our phenomenal comedian Cem Yılmaz's latest work. A Netflix comedy series. Dunno how people from other countries see Yılmaz's humour, but as a Turk I exceedingly like it. I believe this is really a quality work. I quite enjoyed it and sent some audible laughters here and there. 8.5/10

Finished All of Us are Dead. Really enjoyed it as a whole, but I feel exhausted. It's pretty much non-stop since the word go. I did warm to the characters, but Koreans are rather odd in the way they treat each other (maybe that was a fault of the poor translation though). I'm zombied out for a while now lol 9.5/10

Agreed. Sadly Netflix are cutting things right, left and centre as they handle the fall out of losing subscribers and therefore lost revenue.

The Rising Season 1 (Sky Studios)

One of the better things to come from Sky in recent years. A young woman comes back from the dead to help solve the mystery of her own murder. The catch - only a few people can see and hear her. I liked the mix of gothic horror and murder mystery handled with lots of intensity. 8/10

I knew it had pretty good reviews (8.4 on imdb) before I watched, but even then these shows often disappoint. But wow, where the hell did this come from - it's brilliant. It's crude, rude, violent, hilarious and action-packed. It really is like no other superhero movie or TV show I've seen, and it's a real breath of fresh air. I was laughing out loud quite a lot, there are some great comedy moments. The music has a lot of 80s cheesy Rock tunes from the likes Cinderella and The Quireboys which really adds to the whole thing. Great stuff and stupid fun. 9/10
Thumbs UpThumbs Up I love the opening credits. I made Mrs JD watch it two or three times then said "You really need to watch the first episode to really understand what kind of a series it is. She agreed, and we binged it over a week. Cena is perfect in this roll.

Enjoy this, then check it out.
