There should be lots of people who still don't use the internet. It is not THAT weird.

He's from England, so that's why I find it hard to believe he wasn't familiar with the internet until 2010.
Would you also find it hard to believe that I've never owned a mobile phone? Smile

yes, how do you get in touch with people? Confused

what do you mean by "old school heavy rock"? Is it Sabbath, Heep and Purple? Budgie, High Tide and Rainbow?
Yes - all the above apart from Rainbow who came too late in the day for me and had metal traits

That's easy. Almost everyone I know lives locally, so if I want to keep in touch, I walk., and the only time I ever use a landline is to give a meter reading to my power company. Smile

Riverside is an amazing band that is labelled prog metal here.   Not sure I agree on that label... but whatever...  still an amazing band.

I like Dream Theater and some of the other bands...but they are not in my top rank.

I do avoid  extreme prog metal though..... not a fan of screaming lyrics

I like the sound of Riverside too, having dipped my toes into their first three albums recently, without even realising they were labelled as Progressive Metal. Smile

First 4 albums are progressive metal definitely. If we had multiple labels/tags, heavy prog and crossover could fit some of their music.

I make exceptions for Dream Theater and Haken. But that's about it.

I'm a "Not Usually" choice.
DT pre BC&SL, the newer material is boring to me.
All of Riverside, that is prog metal.
OSI
LTE
Haken
...stuff like that.

Their first album doesn't sound very Metal to me.

ok if you believe that, I just do not. Smile

I believe it. He didn’t say he didn’t know about the Internet. It is perfectly believable that Paul went online for the first time in 2010, and just as believable that as he was only just beginning to use the Internet, that he would not necessarily know all he could do on it. It’s entirely believable that he would not know he could listen to music on YouTube.

And I could also easily believe he has never owned a mobile phone. Plenty of people don’t, and although I do, I barely use it as anything more than a glorified iPod. It’s a hand me down from my wife, as I never found the need for a mobile phone, and if I’m using it at all, it’s usually only to play music. And that’s music I’ve loaded onto the phone, as I’ve never streamed music on my phone.

I know people that had never used the Internet until after 2010, so Paul going online only then is not as unbelievable as you seem to think. Given what we can infer of Paul’s character and idiosyncrasies by his posts, it seems to me highly likely that Paul is telling the truth here. I can definitely believe he had not used the Internet prior to 2010, that he was unaware he could listen to music on YouTube, and that he has never had a mobile phone.

"very metal"? what does it even mean?
Even metalstorm classifies them as progressive metal

How am I rude?
Or is it if i ask you anything, I'm instantly rude? Sorry about that, I'm not gonna ask you anything anymore then. Ouch

^ I figure those pejorative words are meant to address metal music. Rude, it can be OK. At least understandable, whilst I beg to differ. But unprecise? Any music can be performed with good or bad precision.

Prog metal is a genre I listen to less as I become geriatric, but I still enjoy it.
