Or I'm not so sure about it, with all these ratings of yours, so much focus on them and maybe quite a lot of unsatisfied people. |

quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

it was not his ratings that people found upsetting, but his comments, Ian pointed them out earlier.

Having now listened to and rated all 25 albums, there's plenty of scope for dissatisfaction and it'd be really quite extraordinary if anyone actually agreed with all my album ratings, which they don't.

It really has nothing at all with your ratings, Paul, as so many have said, so many times. No one has been upset (or surprised) by your ratings, as by now we all know your tastes. But you just keep on with your wilfully obtuse missing of the point. We know you do that so well! 😄🤪
Personally, I am not offended of upset by any of what you say. I’ve lived in the UK too long, and met and known too many Englishmen like you, to take offence. |

Well, at least I've made the effort to finally listen to some Avant prog albums even though I knew I probably wouldn't like them, but I can't say I wasn't warned in advance, especially by you.

I kinda know what you'd like and what you'd not. I guess you have a lot of time on your hands if you can spend it listening to music you dislike.

^ As I mentioned earlier, I didn't torture myself by listening to those Avant Prog albums all the way through. Five minutes was usually about all I could take.

so why did you rate them if you haven't listened to them all the way through?

I don't think you can give any album a rating until you've given it your undivided attention and heard it through at least three times; it's disrespectful to the artist. If you've played something through only once and you find the thought of giving it a second spin unbearable... just don't give it a rating as you're not in the best position to do so....

They're not official PA ratings. They're unofficial ratings solely for the purposes of this poll, so I wouldn't worry about it.

No one pays much attention to my ratings anyway so what does it matter?

Only from the point of view that a 1-star rating and thumbs down from me is likely to be taken as a recommendation when it comes to experimental Avant Prog. Conversely, I very much doubt if anyone's going to listen to Mostly Autumn simply because I've given all of their albums a 5-star rating.

Greg, like many bands on PA, Mostly Autumn's 'Folk' tag comes from the first three albums, which have a different sound from anything off Passengers onward, which would probably fit the Crossover box more appropriately. They gradually lost the Folk label when Bob Faulds left after the 2nd album, taking his violin with him, Troy's pipes ended up spending more time in the Nightwish camp and Angela's flute started playing 2nd fiddle to her keyboard. It was a shame because they were unique, but I'd imagine it's difficult composing to keep an 8 piece of this sort together and happy, so they morphed into more of a Prog/Classic rock band with 'Pink Floyd' style guitar over the next few albums. If you'd like to hear them at their best from the early years, try Mother Nature: |

You giving mostly autumn's entire discography 5 stars might spark someone's curiosity and also make some people suspicious.

I have checked out a couple of Mostly Autumn albums based on Paul's adoration. Personally they are not a style that appeals to me. (See how easy that was)

For all we shared together on ProgArchives, our tastes in music couldn't be more different, but you might like this song from Mostly Autumn's first album... |

I'm not saying I may or may not like songs from Mostly Autumn, it's the ridiculousness of giving a band with a ton of albums 5 stars all of them. Are all the albums on the same level, same super-quality, all inspired to the max? I very much doubt that. I would not rate any favorite band of mine all 5 stars albums because believe it or not there are differences between albums (obviously), on some the playing is tighter, the songwriting is more interesting and entertaining, other albums will not rise to the same standard.

From someone who does enjoy MA's music, I would respectfully suggest that 'Music Inspired By The Lord Of The Rings' (an album written from scratch in less than 2 weeks and consisting mostly of instrumentals) shouldn't be given 5 stars... neither come to think of it, should 'Heart Full Of Sky' which I find oddly lacklustre in places; clearly suffering from Iain Jenning's absence...
