Finished Series 1 of From. Really enjoyed it. It definitely has a Lost vibe (which is a good thing IMO), but more gory and scary. Coincidentally Harold Perrineau appeared in both shows (he stars in From). Obviously there are many mysteries and questions - so hopefully it doesn't get cancelled. 9/10.

Also Series 1 of Peacemaker complete https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13146488/. It follows straight on from the movie Suicide Squad. I knew it had pretty good reviews (8.4 on imdb) before I watched, but even then these shows often disappoint. But wow, where the hell did this come from - it's brilliant. It's crude, rude, violent, hilarious and action-packed. It really is like no other superhero movie or TV show I've seen, and it's a real breath of fresh air. I was laughing out loud quite a lot, there are some great comedy moments. The music has a lot of 80s cheesy Rock tunes from the likes Cinderella and The Quireboys which really adds to the whole thing. Great stuff and stupid fun. 9/10

Vikings: Valhalla. It takes place 100 years after Ragnar Lothbrook and it tells of the Viking return to England after the ones living there had all been eliminated by the old King. It's not as good as Vikings and some imdb reviews are scathing, but as long as one looks beyond the historical inaccuracies it's not too bad. But a massive blunder - a black African queen heading the Vikings at Kattegat - seriously!! 7/10

Currently watching All of Us are Dead  More S. Korean zombies madness. This time it all starts in a school. The Koreans have a real skill for doing these type of zombie TV shows. This is up there with Kingdom. Each episode is about an hour long and there are 12 of them. We've watched 2 so far and they went by in a flash. Very tense, chaotic with lots of manic action. I understand it all takes place in the school so it may be difficult to maintain this standard without getting repetitive. 9.5/10 so far.

watched this, Les Stroud's first show before he made Survivorman, a good two-parter he filmed alone when he was still developing his docu style --

Slow Horses. Man! Gary Oldman is such an amazing actor! This great little spy thriller is great. Couldn't believe I was laughing so much (Oldman's character, Jackson lamb, is so quick witted yet subtly so!)

Just finished It's Okay to Not Be Okay for the fifth time--and I still think it's the best and my favorite television series of my entire life. It just gets better/makes more sense/seems more seemless with each viewing. Such amazing ensemble acting and gorgeous people and cinematography.

Been going through Criminal Minds from the start. Season 7 is my favorite so far (though some of the episodes are quite dark and graphic).

Equinox (2020 - Season 1 / 6 Episodes - Denmark): A pretty nice Danish Netflix series; or not so nice... What secrets does that grimoire hold?.. It hasn't been announced yet, but even if it's gonna be canceled, that wouldn't be a disappointment for most; it is satisfactory as a single season series. 7.5/10

Archive 81 (2022 - 1 Season / 8 Episodes - US): It's a shame that this really good Netflix series about a fantastical cult was canceled after just one season. The ending overtly shows that this was not the intended result for its makers. It reminded me of the Spanish movie entitled Durante la tormenta, with some of its aspects. 8/10

Billions Season 6 (12 episodes)

I must admit I expected this show to fail after the departure of Damian Lewis but I was wrong. The great writing and quick fire repartee is what makes this great. I loved the season finale, lies within lies within lies (or perhaps more smoke and mirrors. Great job by Corey Stoll, keeps me guessing whether his character Mike is really on the level. Season 7 has been green lit so I look forward to finding out. 8/10

Severance Season 1 (9 episodes)

Big fan of this near future dystopian drama. Employees of a company called Lumen choose to have work and personal life memories severed. Why would anyone do this? You have to watch to find out. Great cast including Patricia Arquette , John Turturro and and Christopher Walken with Ben Stiller directing One of my shows of the year so far. 9/10

I agree here, the show started getting worse and worse as it went.
As for Sean Bean, I feel the writers didn't know what to do with his character at some point, I blame the writing, not the actor.

Finished Peaky Blinders too. It did improve a bit in the last 2 episodes, but overall a disappointing series. I'm glad it's all over tbh.

I agree totally on both accounts , especially Peaky Blinders which went on a couple of seasons more than needed.

Another excellent season. The supporting cast is stellar.
From Gilmore Girls writer, producer, director Amy Sherman-Palladino.

The scene between Lenny Bruce & Midge at the end was absolutely great!
When he leads her to the stage? Agreed. My only complaint would be that the season goes by too fast. We wait till we have all episode then binge it over a week. If only they'd do a 12 or 18 episode season I'd have a bigger smile on my face.

agreed, a real gem of a show and a tonic in these dark times. We need more.

Odyssey 5 (2002)

So, I had picked up this DVD of the complete series at an antique mall for $5 months ago without ever having heard of it before and gave it a spin while I was waiting for seasons 3 and 4 of The Expanse to show up in the mail. The story centers around the crew of the space shuttle Odyssey 5 (three astronauts, a journalist, and a geneticist) led by Commander Chuck Taggart (played by Peter Weller - of RoboCop fame). In the pilot episode the crew witnesses the Earth implode and loses control of the shuttle. Immediately after losing all of their oxygen, they are saved by an extraterrestrial called The Seeker. The Seeker tells them that he has witnessed 50 other worlds destroyed in this manner and that they are the first survivors he has found. He offers to send their consciousnesses back in time five years to their earlier bodies to find out who destroys the Earth and to try and stop them.

So, the remaining 18 episodes of this deals with this team of five trying to figure out what happened and they find themselves in a world of AIs known as Sentients and artificial humanoids called Synthetics. The best I can compare this with is kind of a mix of the X-Files and the 1995 reboot of The Outer Limits (the creator wrote several episodes of this). The series kind of drags on a bit in the beginning (overdone character development, spending not enough time on the story arc, and occasional boring episodes), but picks up midway through the season and ends with a cliffhanger.

Unfortunately that was it for this series as Showtime cancelled it and only showed the first 14 of the 19 episodes in 2002. They later aired the last five episodes in 2004. So, I likely missed this back then because my cable subscription lacked Showtime. Manny Coto, the creator of the show, envisioned this to be a five-season series, hence the cast being transported back five years during the pilot episode. The potential this show had seems rather high to me, maybe not like Firefly, but possibly more like the same level The 4400 reached if I were to compare this to other series that got rudely cut before they could reach their potential.

One caveat if you ever come across this is beware of the CGI because it really dates this. Remember, it was 2002 when this came out and television series back in the day didn't have the best CGI like movies with larger budgets did. It would be nice if Coto were ever given a chance to reboot this, albeit this would be difficult with the original cast as they all have aged 20 years since this series aired.

First half I would rate 6/10, last half 8/10. Overall 7/10.

Whoa, I've been watching this one too. But I haven't even reached its half. Happy to hear that its second half is better for you. I hope the same can apply to me also.

I recently finished watching Traffic Cops and Police Interceptors, having watched every single episode I can find on YouTube. I'm not known to the police, but the police are well-known to me. Smile

Finally got around to watching Sky Castle, a K-drama from 2019 on Netflix. This is consistently ranked as the #1 K-drama, ahead of such classics that I all rate extremely high: Crash Landing On You, Reply 1988, Mr. Sunshine, Goblin (aka Guardian: The Great and Lonely God), Mr. Queen, When the Camellias Bloom, etc.

It's really good. It's tonally similar to the film Parasite, which came out a few months later; both remind me of classic Chabrol at his class-conscious Hitchcockian best. The main villain reminds me of Iago from Shakespeare's Othello - an almost Satanic character using human nature against itself.
