First Utterance for sure, its classic!

I'm sort of a half-fan of Jethro Tull, and never been able to get into stormwatch much.

Stormwatch. Utterance is a once every decade listen....and then I remember why it took ten years.
...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined
to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

First utterance is quite challenging but after getting used to it it's briliant. I think this album is the best debut ever (followed by "Phalus Dei" and ITCOTCK) and better than any Tull's album including TAAB, Songs from the wood and Aqualung that I truely love. So this is my vote - FU

both good not great albums IMO, but slight edge to Comus for its weirdness alone

Neither for a desert island. Rather not have music if these are my only choices.

I’ll take my stormwatch remix book set with me for sure. Great double album. I can’t remember liking comus really
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Another vote for First Utterance. Whilst I kinda dig Stormwatch, it’s not at all as interesting as the albums that came before it…and it’s certainly no match for the cult classic from Comus imho.

This ranking is close as hell, but I have to go with Stormwatch. One of the most underrated JT albums at least as far as their 70s albums are concerned Smile

When it comes to the fun, it rather depends on the who.

"Comes the sunlight, summer day
Comus wakes he starts to play, play, play, play
He starts to play, play, play, play" (Song to Comus).

You might not be having fun, but methinks that Comus would like to have some fun with you.

--------------------------------------------------

I actually do find the album quite fun, while also disturbing, quite horrific in part and haunting (The Herald for instance). I find various horror films and novels fun too. I prefer Song to Comus: The Complete Collection which includes First Utterance and the often derided To Keep From Crying, plus some excellent bonus tracks, over First Utterance alone. I like the contrasts, and I have recommended music off To Keep From Crying to some who dislike First Utterance, the recommendation was ignored every time, but that didn't Keep me From Trying.

Surely First Utterance.
Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

First Utterance for sure (especially the version with bonus tracks from the accompanying single, which for me are even better than the album proper!)

If I had to listen to just one it would be Tull.....that Comus lp is revered  by many but for me only half of the songs are enjoyable..the others are annoying to me.
