The non-Prog '80s are good, but surely are the '70s as well, and it'll be interesting to see what they bring here.
My own list as usually unranked:

Black Sabbath  (UK)  -  Paranoid   (1970)

Captain Beyond  (USA)  -  Captain Beyond  (1972)

Deep Purple  (UK)  -  Fireball  (1971)

Dire Straits  (UK)  -  Dire Straits  (1978)

Nina Hagen Band  (D)  -  Nina Hagen Band  (1978)

Judas Priest  (UK)  -  Sad Wings of Destiny  (1976)

Led Zeppelin  (UK)  -  Houses of the Holy  (1973)

Bob Marley & The Wailers (Jamaica)Rastaman Vibration (1976)

Patti Smith Group  (USA)  -  Radio Ethiopia  (1976)

Pere Ubu  (USA)  -  The Modern Dance  (1978)

Sex Pistols  (UK)  -  Never Mind The Bollocks ....  (1977)

The Stooges  (USA)  -  Fun House  (1970)

Supertramp  (UK)  -  Crime of the Century  (1974)

Television  (USA)  -  Marquee Moon   (1977)

Ten Years After  (UK) - Rock & Roll Music To The World (1972)

The Who  (UK)  -  Quadrophenia   (1973)

I hope that you'll enjoy it! Tongue

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

For those who might be interested in the American Pre-Punk/Proto-Punk, Punk, Art Punk and Post-Punk (1961-80),
I'd like to mention the very informative and well-written book
From the Velvets to the Voidoids. A Pre-Punk History for a Post-Punk World (1993) by Clinton Heylin.

And how to miss a bit of early 70's lyrics like these  Tongue

Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven"  (a part of)

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
and she's buying a stairway to heaven
................
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
And it makes me wonder

(from the 1971-album, often called "IV")
