He was talking about longevity of bands and when it is time to retire.  The diss part was when he said "Unlike some artists who end up in a chair on a stage singing… I would never, ever, ever want to be like that. For what purpose? Is it money? Is it some egotistical drive? Get over it. Get over yourself. You know, it’s just, I don’t know… I’m just not like that."

I'm surprised Alex said that about Phil. Old bands continue to play because they love music.

Robert Fripp has always sat down while performing, so why can't Phil?

Rush was one of the bands that got me in trouble.

Back in the mid-late 70s, my parents didn't really care what I listened to. We were far enough apart, and my stereo modest, using headphones my noise was never a nuisance. I think they actually liked some of my Yes.

The problem I had was when we got a revival preacher that was a real fire breather who preached about the devil, all of his works and his cunning snares for youth. Of course, it was this album that got confiscated.

We fought over it but what really got me in trouble was for smarting off to the revival preacher who knew nothing about the album but was completely focused on the cover. I found this to be a recurring theme with narrow-minded people.

Of course, I replaced 2112 later and eventually had the pleasure of seeing Rush in concert three different times.

I doubt the band ever had in mind the other lessons you could learn from their music.

I hear ya!! Although I always understood the pentagram pointing down, meaning the two points upward was the satanic version with the devil as a goat. With the pentagram as on the cover it is a sign of a human being.....

Anyone who confiscates someone's Rush album will burn in hell. Evil Smile

Ok, not really but I think that's a pretty crappy thing to do. Some people (religious or not) are just so quick to judge without knowing all the facts. I think that actually might fit into one of the "fear" songs. "Witch Hunt" maybe. Wink

There's worse sh*t than that, e.g. One Direction and Kanye.

This came by on the radio yesterday. Maybe not for everyone, but I like it and I guess some of you will too. Shows that Rush continues to inspire, also beyond rock boundaries...

Brad Mehldau - maybe as his skies are wide:

As a follow-up to my above post: I'm listening now to Brad Mehldau's new album Jacob's Ladder (yes, indeed!), and what a fantastic gem this is, mixing classical, jazz and prog rock in a highly original and very musical way. Check it out. It has more Rush reworkings on it...

^Those were great. Mehldau's widely known as a gifted pianist, but he actually sticks to the songs' ideas instead of churning out a bunch of jazzy vamps. Quite melodic.

What do you think about the Moving Pictures "visualizers" the band has been posting on YouTube?

Here's an example:
