This is next to impossible for me. I was going to post some time ago, but decided it was too hard, but after it being mentioned in a chat with Brendan, I thought I’d try and give it a shot. To make it slightly easier on me, I am listing only one album per band/artist, even if that choice of one is rather arbitrary at times. Even then, it’s hard for me, because I was a child of the ‘80s, so this was the music that surrounded me, on the tv and on the radio, played at the houses of my friends and family. I have tried, where possible, to choose my favourite ‘80s album as it was at the time, rather than now. Sometimes this is the same album, but in carrying out this exercise, I have realised how much my favourite has changed over the years.

There’s a lot I loved as child, and which I still do if I hear it again today, but which is no longer in my collection. But that is not particularly indicative of a change in taste, so much as my collection was overhauled when I transitioned from cassette to cd. I didn’t have the money to rebuy everything I owned, and had been doing so gradually over the years, to complement my new purchases. However, as the Internet made it easier and easier over the years to hear those older albums, I’ve bought fewer and fewer of the albums I owned on cassette, simply because I know I won’t listen to them often enough to justify the cost, when I know I can simply stream them.

So, anyway, what follows is taken from what remains of my ‘80s love in the ‘80s, in my cd collection today. I tried to keep it to 15, but it was too much of a struggle. I did manage to cut my much larger list down to 20, though. And 20 seems a nice round number….

In Georgia their rickety van called it quits in spectacular fashion - as Haynes and Leary were pulling into a parking lot, the engine started smoking and quickly burst into flame. The two men bailed out of the van, Mark Farner in hand, and watched it burn."

By the way, these two albums are very fine examples of Polish New Wave, and, especially Lady Pank, with

some lyrics which are amazingly critical towards the social system - in Polish though.

I think the songwriting is great, the musicians are competent, the album is all killer, no filler.
