I would have picked Moody Blues, too, if Days were their debut - but it’s not! 😜
That said, I can fully understand why it’s considered by some to be the debut, as it is effectively a debut if a new band by the same name. Even the titles of Seventh Sojourn and Octave point to Days being seen by the band itself as their debut, proper. Similar, I guess, to Genesis.

In a similar vein, I’m going to ignore bands who released only one album in this time period, by taking debut to mean that more were released subsequently and contemporaneously. It’s a pragmatic and expedient approach that means I can ignore a whole heap of Italian albums I absolutely love, and would struggle to choose between. 😜

Arti E Mestieri - Tilt
Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - s/t
Camel - s/t
Can - Monster Movie
Gentle Giant - s/t
Haikara - Haikara
King Crimson - Itchy Cock
Magma - s/t
Procol Harum - s/t
Split Enz - Mental Notes

I’ll probably change my mind as I see other people’s lists, and realise what I’ve forgotten/missed off. I tried to do this as the first ten that came to my mind.

^Oh! I just noticed it is meant to be top 12, and not top 10. Excellent! That means I have two free spots. Rather than fill them now, I shall return at a later date to peruse the lists of others, and then refine my own. 😜

I was going to make that same point too if anyone mentioned that Days of Future Passed isn't The Moody Blues real debut. Smile

No, not quite. You can pick 12 favourite prog debuts from any year between 1967 & 1979.  Smile

Those seven outstanding albums could've been in my list too if I'd extended it to a Top 20. Thumbs Up

Those three were certainly in consideration on my list.

There are certainly plenty of great debuts to chose from in this era. Looking at other members’ lists I spot the first 10 that I could’ve picked.
Knowing your affinity for jazz and avant I was wondering whether you’ve ever checked out the Italian band Dedalus? Their first couple of albums should be right down your alley methinks, with the second one being fairly close to free-jazz.

Another one I could’ve picked is the Kraftwerk debut. Listening to it as I’m writing this on the bus home from work. Great debut that sounds nothing like Autobahn and what came after.
