We’ll have to agree to disagree here. I think it’s entirely possible that Paul ONCE thought that Rhapsody was Lee’s (back up) band, but there is no way he still thinks that. He is baiting you, and you’re taking it. Even his words make no claim that this video is proof that Rhapsody is Lee’s band, note does he claim that Rhapsody is Lee’s band. You’re reading between the lines to make that inference. Paul often writes in a deliberately vague and ambiguous manner that offers the opportunity for someone to take offence. But the key there is someone is taking offence, rather than Paul being offensive. I’m not suggesting Paul has never been offensive, because he certainly has been, at times. But careful reading shows that he is often not saying exactly what people assume he is saying. And, of course, I could be wrong. I tend to be naive and like to give people the benefit of the doubt, which is why I continue to engage with people like Paul and David and Pedro, because I don’t think they intend to be malicious or offensive, and they do often have views I agree with, or that I can learn from. |

Paul thinks Rhapsody was Christopher lee's back up band which was never the case. Lee guested with Rhapsody. The song Paul keeps posting as proof is a Rhapsody song from 2004 so it's all nonsense here. Lee made power metal, no Rhapsody musicians were involved though.

To be fair to Paul, he’s not at all inaccurate here. He says “Christopher Lee performing with Rhapsody”, which is exactly what this is. So I take it as an acknowledgment that he recognises that the two are different artists. Just as you could accurately say “here’s Jon Anderson performing with King Crimson” about Lizard. Neither statement actually says that Rhapsody is Lee’s band, or that Krimson is Anderson’s. |

No, it's Rhapsody with guest Christopher Lee. Rhapsody - The Magic of the Wizard's Dream is a song from Rhapsody's 2004 album. Symphony Of Enchanted Lands II - The Dark Secret

^ Okay, if any further proof is needed, here's Christopher Lee performing with Rhapsody, before they became Rhapsody of Fire.

please comment, since when do you worry I'd get annoyed? Christopher Lee was a guest narrator and singer on one (or two possibly) of Rhapsody's albums (or Rhapsody of Fire who knows, there were 4 line-ups at some point ). No Rhapsody musicians were in Lee's metal band. So I don't even know where you got the idea that the musicians of Rhapsody were Lee's back up band.

I don't know how David is with growls, possible he is not into it, but even I dislike a lot o growlers. The other users that posted here are not appalled by growls.

Well, cookie monster or no cookie monster, I did give Diabulus in Musica's debut a well-deserved 4-star rating, which is more stars than Dimmu Borgir or Opeth will ever get from me. By the way, how do you know I'm the only one here who's scared of the cookie monster?

not my choice, you asked for a band, I gave you an example. Who are you warning about cookie monster vocals? You are the only one here disliking it.

Forget Sophie's Choice and Hobson's Choice, this is Cristi's Choice, so say goodbye to Dimmu Borgir - who have disappeared from here For All Tid (thankfully!) - and say a warm hello to the sound of Diabulus in Musica, but watch out for the cookie monster again!

I really didn`t know the existence of the symphonic metal genre,
moreover many of the bands like Rhapsody of Fire, Kamelot, Edenbridge,
Avantasia, Epica, Delain, Symphony X i identify plain and simple as
power metal. Therion first work its old school
death metal, similar to other bands in that time like Entombed, Carnage
and dismember, and really i dont find any similarity with the
aforementioned bands. Within temptation, After
Forever, the italians Lacuna Coil and the norwegians tristania were
bands very influenced by The Gathering from the first albums
(Always,Almost a Dance, Mandylion) and the norwegian band The Third And
The Mortal, at the end of the 90´s to that type of bands we called them,
goth metal or doom death metal. Sirenia and Nightwish (adding classical trained singer, Tarja) appeared some time later, in turn influenced by the aforementioned bands, Evanescence too but adding Nu Metal. Never like Dimmu Borgir, i prefer bands like Ulver, Enslaved, In The Woods... I would add a band to this poll called Dreams Of Sanity, i think they would fit in this type of genre. |

Really glad that's not the logic I employ when listening to new bands. I tend to just pick any album I can get a hold of and see how it sounds. Looking at my music collection, there are quite a few bands where, if I had listened to their debut album first, then I probably wouldn't have listened to any more Imagine listening to "From Genesis to Revelation" and using that as your judge of all things Genesis
