Yes, we'll both hold the PA fort together Paul... as long as you're here, it's in capable hands!

Anyway, maybe you could include your deliberations on Kingfisher Sky as your next subject in your Dutch thread? After all, they do follow on alphabetically from Kayak... Approve

If I included Kingfisher Sky in my Classic Dutch Prog Blog too, that would surely be a case of Double Dutch. Big smile

I need to count how many times I told you not to mix these two metal subgenres. 🤦‍♂️
I know you copy band names from my polls to piss me off, that's for sure.

^This whole thread is a complete clusterf%#k of conflated genres. There must be at least half a dozen genres being confused and compiled together in an obtuse and meaningless fashion. I have learnt to simply ignore Paul’s wilful ignoring of conventions and definitions, and accept that he has his own unique fashion of describing the bands and artists he listens to. I ignore David in a similar fashion, for his constant replying to himself, without saying anything new. Both David and Paul spew forth ideas and observations, and then pay no attention to anyone who attempts to make sense of their word vomit. But I don’t think either of them are trolls, or deliberately set out to antagonise. They are just…..different.

Well, it's a good thing I DID include Progressive Metal in my listings, or I'd have nothing to add for the letter "O", and it's a good thing I DIDN'T copy & paste the album titles from Wikipedia or they'd all be in italics Big smile

Different strokes for different folks. My offbeat lists and polls are a great way for me - and hopefully others - to discover new music. I'm 'opeth I'll like the sound of Opeth, just so long as there are no monster growling vocals in the style of Dimmu Borgir. Wink

Well, there are definitely growls, but none are in the style of Dimmu Borgir.
If you want to avoid the Cookie Monster vocals, listen only to Damnation, and the albums from Heritage onwards.

(On the other hand, if you want to ease yourself into the growls, start with Watershed and work backwards.)

In that case, I'll add Nemesea to my "must listen to" list. Obviously, there are two many artists & albums listed here for me to listen to everything, so it's handy to know which bands I should selectively check out. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice, Nick. I always listen to the entire discography of an artist in chronological order, so maybe it's best if I avoid Opeth altogether, especially if there's a growling cookie monster on the loose. Tongue

No. Don’t do that, as i think you may very well enjoy the post-growl albums. A lot of people consider Opeth to be two quite different bands, because their style changed so dramatically once they lost their growls. Even their own album without growls pre-Heritage sounds completely different to their post-growl albums, and is more in line with being an acoustic version of their growling albums.

I would advise either listening to Opeth, mk II, ignoring all that came before, and starting with Heritage. Or, if you do want to tackle the entire discography, then start with their most recent and work backwards. There’s no point in missing out everything, just because some of it is not to your taste. I don’t expect you will like much (if any) of Opeth, mk I, with the Cookie Monster growls. But I do think you would find quite a bit to enjoy, based upon what else I know you like, within Opeth, mk II, which is redolent of the classic ‘70s prog sounds of bands like Cressida, Jethro Tull, etc.
