Again, true what you say, but symphonic metal was created by combining sounds of European power metal and gothic metal/gothic-doom. I think a band like Theatre of Tragedy was an influence on early symphonic metal. The "beauty and the beast" type of gothic metal in general. Therion's Theli and Vovin and the early sound of Nightwish shaped up the genre.

The hills are alive with the sound of Edenbridge who - despite the name - aren't from the Garden of England, but from over the hills and far away in Austria, and this is their stunning debut. 2000: Edenbridge - Sunrise in Eden - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcQfM4LCpP5oP0rIG3a0XOjT_rRsLQ3Fk Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 27 2022 at 03:37 |

Paul, if you're pining for more female fronted North American Power-Symph bands, try:
Seven Kingdoms: Decennium (Try Kingslayer) Seven Spires: Solveig (Whole album is ridiculously good) Unleash The Archers: Apex (Try the Title Track) Believe me, technically, they all wipe the floor with Evanescence..... You might also like to try Ancient Bards and Frozen Crown....

Although at present, or greater import than any of them would be this:
Ukraine's very talented Ignea with one of their most instantly accessible tracks...

Unleash the Archers are not symphonic metal though. Just female fronted heavy metal. Neither is Seven Kingdoms, but being female fronted melodic power metal, I'll give them a pass.

^ ^ Even if Under the Archers aren't classed as Symphonic Metal, I still might like them, especially with them being a female-fronted Metal band.
Evanescence aren't classed as a Symphonic Metal band either, but I still like them, as I can hear elements of Symphonic Metal in their music. Edited by Psychedelic Paul - March 02 2022 at 05:21 |

Dimmu Borgir's music for some reason, annoys the heck out of me.

I found Dimmu Borgir's first album to be very annoying too, where the "singer" growls his way through the entire album. I'm hoping he may have taken some singing lessons before recording the second album, but I've heard (from Cristi) that it doesn't get any better.

The growling type of singing does not mean the singer is incompetent, it's just a singing style. Also (and I don't like Dimmu Borgir either) stop thumbing down music you do not like. What is the point of it?

^ I give a thumbs up to music I like and so, conversely, I give a thumbs down to music I dislike.
I just wish someone would buy Dimmu Borgir's "singer" some throat lozenges.

Why? There is a difference though between music that I don't like and music I think it's bad. For extreme vocals, there is a singing technique, you may not like the style, but don't mock it.

In the case of the YES album "Open Your Eyes", I presume that's music you both dislike and you think it's bad too - based on your previous comments - but I'm not going to get upset if you mock it, even though I happen to like the album. We're all aboard the Trans-Europe Express tomorrow for Imperia - a band that's quite literally from the four corners of Western Europe: namely, Finland, Norway, Germany & Belgium.
