Having just listened to Ayreon's outstanding debut album for the first time, I'm adding my vote to The Final Experiment - the clear winner in this poll.

From Shredded Wheat and Shreddies, it's back to some guitar-shredding and the heavy Metal Opera of Avantasia.

Then are you sure that Apocalyptica just don't get three Shreddies for breakfast? |

They're called Shreddies - or mini Shredded Wheat. |

^ Yes, there was a well-known advertising campaign in England where the tagline was, "I bet you can't eat three Shredded Wheat."

Now, as my English is not that heavy, what is Shredded Wheat? - even I know the meaning of these two words. |

I can tell just from listening to the heavy Cello Metal sound of Apocalyptica that they have three Shredded Wheat for breakfast in the morning.

"Cello Metal"? - but some of their later albums sound as Metal.

Apocalyptica: a Finnish Symphonic Metal band who sound like no Symphonic Metal band you've ever heard before, as there's no guitar-shredding to be heard here - only cello-shredding. 1996: Apocalyptica - Plays Metallica by Four Cellos - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nZbMSDX9L8HTUM-b83QRzgta_-NplwLFY Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 21 2022 at 09:46 |

Wake up and smell the coffee to the sound of the Symphonic Power Metal band Amberian Dawn. Are they Finnish? No, they've only just got started as this is their first album.

I currently only have four CD albums in the poll:- by Evanescence, Leaves' Eyes, Nightwish & Within Temptation, although all of the albums are within temptation (so to speak) if the price is right.

My own approach is very different, as all the albums, I've so far listed in all "my" threads/and one poll (), have been from my collection, and thus some I know very well - but you're still very glad of listening to new-to-you music while I have a period when I almost only listen to my collection. |

I simply picked every Symphonic Metal band I could think of and then added Ayreon and Evanescence to make it the full complement of 25 entries.

I'm certainly not fond of growling, either, even I own one album with Isis where I can accept it. Otherwise, Paul, you make me curious about how you've picked all these albums.

I preferred Aesma Daema's debut, mainly because After Forever went a bit overboard with the growling monster vocals on their debut. That's 2 albums listened to so far in the poll - only another 23 to go. |

I guess, it's good to distinguish between PA and other places, but I'd at least say that Here Lies One Whose Name Was Written in Water is a good album to bring for the PA audience.
