Another Life Season 2 2021

I bracket these together as they ended up being remarkably similar plot wise. I won't spoil it though if you are planning to watch either. Good characters , not that 'dark' as a lot of sc-fi can be and both look good on a decent HD TV. Job done if lacking a bit on emotional impact. Both 7/10

Final Space Season 3 2021

This animated series just gets better and better. I felt very invested in the characters and the plot lines, great job all round. 9/10

If you are a sci-fi fan you should try The Expanse if you haven't already seen it.
One of the best sci-fi shows I have ever watched.
It does take a little time to develop, the first season is a little slow.

Thank you JD. I will definitely check it out.

The TV series that I watched recently and was pretty impressed with it was Mozart in the Jungle (Amazon Studios). Comedy-drama (not as funny as Mrs. Maisel) based on the memoir, the stories around the members of New York Philharmonic orchestra. The main characters are young oboist and eccentric new conductor played by Gael Garcia Bernal who received Golden Globe for his role in 2016. BTW, I saw him also in Station Eleven. The series was developed by Roman Coppola (son of Francis Ford Coppola), Jason Schwartzman (actor known from Wes Anderson movies) and couple other writers. Unfortunately the series is not consistent because each episode was written by different writer. There are unforgettable, uplifting episodes and other episodes are dull, uninteresting. Lots of great classical music performances. One of my favorite episodes is when NY Symphony goes to Rikers Island prison and performs for detainees in the jail yard. Powerful and heart melting filmmaking.
One of the episodes has a short but sweet progressive-rock reference. Smile

That's a great series indeed , very disappointed to see it didn't continue for at least another season.

btw the lead actor Gael Garcia Bernal recently popped up in Station Eleven playing a theatre actor who literally dies on stage doing Hamlet!

Absolutely love Resident Alien (can't wait for S2) but never got into The Blacklist which seemed a bit too 'theatrical' but then that doesn't normally put me off Smile

Besides watching Schitt's Creek, Ted Lasso, and Killing Eve over and over, I've been watching a lot of Korean series. Weird how relationships are portrayed over there. It's Okay to Not Be Okay may be the finest television series I've ever watched (been through it four times now): beauty, great acting, great story, funny, amazing integration of animation and "classic" children's storybook themes, with probably the best exposition of the spectrum of human mental/psychological diseases/disorders/dysfunctions I've ever been seen in television.

Also, actress Han So-hee from My Name and Nevertheless has got to be one of the bravest, most versatile, and talented actresses I've ever seen. The scripts she's taken on, alone, might be leading (or challenging) the accepted "norms" in Korean cinema and television. Amazing!

P.S. Didn't think much of Station 11 or Nine Perfect Strangers

Thanks for that, it's on my 'to watch' list.

Dr wu23, Archisorcerus - thank you for your recommendations. I forgot to mention that I watch these TV series with my wife and she is not a huge fan of sci-fi in general or weird crime drama.
Any fans of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel?
First season was really good IMO. Second - I was partial to it. I especially enjoyed the episodes that took place in Catskills resort. Third season - let down, mostly because of too much of bad 50s music. Waiting for a start of 4th season. As you can see, I am a strong believer in a saying "Happy wife, happy life". But..,
I really enjoyed all 3 seasons of True Detective and Chernobyl (HBO shows), but I watched them with my son before he moved out from the house.
Another really good Tv series, but older one was "Mad Men". I really like the shows/books about relationships.

I have to admit that I like the movies/TV series with feelgood ending. I guess I am spoiled by Hollywood happy ending movies. 😉

I hate when there no ending at all. You try to stay focus on getting to know the characters, their stories/relationships and all of the sudden the movie ends without any closure. I hate that!

I am looking for some TV series recommendations.
Good cast, great plot, with interesting dialogs where f words in not in every sentence, preferably with some humor. Life is too sad these days, need some laughs.

I've been watching the Canadian series entitled The Collector (2004-2006). It is quite interesting. Has some dark humour. Also you can always play the "prediction game" while watching. I don't want to give spoilers, but the idea that it was built upon gives way to that.

The Girl In The Woods (2021 ) on Peacock
If you liked Stranger Things you might like this also...teens battle occult evil from another realm that hides in the woods. It didn't engage me like Stranger Things but it was ok...  6/10

On old shows I highly recommend Fringe (a reimagination of X Files) and Warehouse 13 (tongue in cheek sci-fi/fantasy),,,,,both are well done.

Hoping to start Archive 81 soon....been watching The Titans and various films.

But it's weird as it follows a future Shakespearean troupe as it travels around. Some of it was superb, other parts dismal and dull. I've read the synopsis of the book (I may one day read it) and the TV show seems to deviate too much, which is why it's so dull. None of the practicalities are tackled (food, medicine etc.) which leaves it all a bit one dimensional. The music is good though. 4/10 for the 2 or 3 really good episodes.

I quite liked Station Eleven. Solid acting with great visuals/cinematography and sound production. This was about the characters and their relationships. I think the deviations from the novel worked in getting invested in the characters. Music was well incorporated.I rate it 8/10

I've only watched episode 1 and quite liked it. So far only 4 episodes have been officially released in the UK (Starzplay) and unfortunately my cable TV provider Virgin Media have f**ked up and only put Ep 1 and 4 out but somehow missing out 2 and 3.
I did note that Mackenzie Davis appears in it and I like her from Halt And Catch Fire , a criminally underrated AMC studios drama that ran 4 seasons. She was also very good in the Blade Runner sequel and also in a small role in The Martian.
Perhaps I'm not missing much but even your review is intriguing if not exactly showering it with praise Smile

I do agree, very uneven TV series. I gave up on it. Read the book, much better and much more interesting than TV show, with couple nice "twists" towards the end.
