It's no surprise that my observations about Marillion made you cringe, so let me reply to your four points...

1. I didn't know Fish was the only Scottish member of the band, so I already learned something new this morning. Big smile
2. Yes, Misplaced Childhood is Marillion's worst album in my opinion, although some may disagree with me (or far more likely *EVERYONE* will disagree with me), but I only have four words to say about that immensely irritating album: "Lavender's blue, dilly dilly". Need I say more!? LOL
3. No, I didn't know Fish had left Marillion and I didn't know who Steve Hogarth was until just a few days ago. Embarrassed
4. I wasn't being entirely serious with Point #4. Tongue

I feel like you are trolling with me right now... Ouch

1. How can you not now Fish left when you listen to another vocalist on the fifth album. I don't understand how you made that observation above (trolling much?)
2. The "dilly dilly" ruins the whole album?! Confused WTF?! The second half is much stronger than the first, it's not an easy pop album, it demands and deserves some attention.
3. Again, makes no sense what you say there.
4. Well, I did explain what was happening there.
In reply to your reply.....

1. Yes, I discovered Fish had left Marillion when I listened to their fifth album very recently. Smile
2. No, it's not only "Lavender's Blue" that ruined the album. I couldn't stand "Kayleigh" either, although that's just my opinion. "Kayleigh" was played to death on the radio in England and I switched the radio off everytime that godawful song came on. Thumbs Down
3. So what's new? LOL
4. Explanation accepted. Wink

1. so why did you say "I didn't know Fish left"? Confused
2. I don't think Kayleigh is a bad song at all. I also did not know it was overplayed back in '85. I get it one can grow to dislike a song because of that. I overplayed the song on my own I guess, I've listened to this album a lot. Still think Rothery's solo is great.
You also ignored it seems what I said above. The second half of the album is much stronger, more interesting that the first. Give that a chance.
3. And here I thought what we post here needed to make sense, be logical, how naïve of me.
4. ok.

1. I'm saying I didn't know Fish had left Marillion until just a few days ago when I started listening to their albums for the first time. Smile
2. You're right. I don't think "Kayleigh" is a bad song either, but when I heard it played to death constantly on the radio back in the mid-80's, it didn't just turn me against the song, it turned me against the band too. Confused
3. I'm not sure why my reply makes no sense to you when I'd never listened to any Marllion albums until just a few days ago. Wacko

^ Please don't use the "wacko" emoticon, it's kinda rude and i don't deserve it here.
Your post didn't make sense to me. That's when you can give a further explanation, don't call me a wacko for not understanding.

well, you're not a wacko either.

I seem to take those emoticon too seriously, but after all, let's not forget they do have a meaning.

^ I think you'll be pleased with my Marillion ratings, considering that out of the 28 Marillion albums I've listened to so far, I've given five exceptionally good albums the full 5-star treatment. Thumbs Up

You may think I have a Misplaced low rating for one particular Marillion album though. Wink

Gotta love you calling Hogarth "new singer" when he's been in the band since 1989!

Btw - did you know The Beatles have split up? LOL

It may please you to hear that I've changed my list of UK Prog classics by including Renaissance  -  Renaissance  (1969), as I'm very fond of this album. But I know that the band members making it were entirely different than on their following albums (except from # two), many of which you apparently like very much.

Something else, and which doesn't have anything to do with Marillion either, I'm curious about you way of rating albums. Which criteria do you use for that purpose?

5 stars An essential album that I'd be prepared to order specially.
4 stars A very good album that I'd buy off the shelf in a record store.
3 stars A good album, but I'd only buy it a bargain basement price.
2 stars A poor album that I'd never want to hear again, even if it was given away free.
 Absolutely dreadful!

And on the subject of Renaissance, these are my album ratings...

But how many stars to give, is it just how much you like it, or you look at some specific criterias?
