Hi-ho silver away! Quantum Jump are of course best-known for "The Lone Ranger", but if you've never heard either of their two jazzy Canterbury Scene albums before, then you're in for quite a surprise. Their albums are a quantum jump away from that legendary masked bandit.  Smile

A brief introduction to the artists coming up in Prog Britannia 8, starting tomorrow:-

ABEL GANZ:- If the name is anything to go by, Abel Ganz sound like they're from some remote region of Eastern Europe, but they're actually a Neo Prog band from bonnie Scotland.

BIG BIG TRAIN:- A big big band who need no introduction. Added in memory of their singer David Longdon who recently passed away at the age of 56 after an undisclosed accident.

CREDO:- A three-album Neo Prog band.

JOHN DYSON:- A Progressive Electronic artist from Sheffield very much in the mould of Tangerine Dream, but with a distinctive whistling synth style all of his own.

EDISON'S CHILDREN:- An Anglo-American Neo-Prog band, well-known for having astronaut Neil Armstong's son in the line-up.

FROST*:- A Neo Prog band from East Sussex whose bandname comes complete with an asterisk (or maybe a frosty snowflake, if you have a vivid imagination).

GENTLE GIANT:- Admittedly, not one of my favourite prog bands, but they're too big to be ignored.

HEATHER FINDLAY:- The former singer with Mostly Autumn who now has her own band.

IAN BODDY:- A prolific Progressive Electronic artist from Geordieland in the northeast of England. How-way Man!

BRYAN JOSH:- The Gilmour-esque guitarist with Mostly Autumn branches out on his own.

KESTREL:-  A classic Symphonic Prog band with one self-titled album released in 1975.

FRANCIS LICKERISH:- A long-standing member of The Enid with one outstanding Symphonic Prog album released in 2012.

MARILLION:- Marillion came second (just behind Porcupine Tree) in the Modern Post-1970's Prog Bands poll, so they're an absolute must for inclusion here, even though I'm not a fan.

NO-MAN:- Steven Wilson's Post-Rock project, when he's not busy performing with Porcupine Tree.

OZRIC TENTACLES:- Admittedly, all of their  albums sound the same to me, but I know they have a big following here, so they're here by popular demand.

PORCUPINE TREE:- The only surprise is it's taken me this long to include the most popular modern band on ProgArchives.

QUANTUM PIG:- An obscure one-album Neo Prog band who are here mainly because I'm running out of bands beginning with the tricky letter "Q".

RAINBOW:- Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow is Rising on Prog Britannia, finally!

STEVEN WILSON:- The most popular solo artist from the modern prog era and an obvious inclusion together with his band Porcupine Tree. Ideally, Steven Wilson should have been listed under the letter "W", but I had to keep that slot open for John Dyson's Wavestar.

THIEVES' KITCHEN:- A female-fronted Neo Prog band from Swindon who I'm really looking forward to hearing for the first time.

UNDERGROUND ZERO:- An East Anglian Neo Psychedelic band with one 1985 album to their credit.

VIVID GLIMPSE:- A modern two-album Crossover Prog band with influences from YES and Genesis.

WAVESTAR:- The name of John Dyson's Progressive Electronic duo before he went solo.

Happy New Year to everyone at Prog Archives! Hug
