I LOVE winter, plus I LOVE prog (obviously), and the coolest thing is that they blend so well together. Listening to music in winter is so different… I don’t know why. So what are your prog picks for winter? To me, prog metal is the most wintery genre out of all genres (that and post rock). You know, dark... cold... anyway, Some of my picks, *Opeth - Universal Truth, Burden, Windowpane... *Plini - Selenium Forest (if you haven’t checked that out yet, you have to do so) *Devin Townsend’s Terria album in his entirety. And some non Prog Metal: *Procol Harum - Repent Walpurgis *King Crimson - Starless *Anekdoten - Book of Hours *Manfred Man Earth Band - Father of Day, Father of Night *Keor - Petrichor (an amazing wintery experience) *And of course all the Steven Wilson’s solo material until 2015 I would love to see your picks. Uzva, specifically their album Tammikuinen Tammela (which I understand means 'Tammela in January').

'Winter Songs' by Art Bears of course although Genesis's '...and then there were three...' is noted for its wintry feel. Combined with the album photography, I always consider Tangerine Dream's 'Tangram' a strong contender.

Probably some Anglagard or All Traps On Earth , admittedly very obvious choices!
Also the Tangerine Dream album Hyperborea. I do like the TD era with Johannes Schmoelling a lot and that is one of the best. The title track is especially ice cold.

I actually have a mixed CD (remember those ) titled 'Assorted Digital Winter Rock' from back in the 90's. Probably named more for the season I created it than the songs on it though. |

Interesting division here, some want 'cold' music for the Winter. My own feeling is when it's cold outside I want warm cheery music (hence the Uzva pick - like a good fire and a glass of kosenkorva after a day in the snow). Conversely when it's hot outside I want some cool music to chill to.

Basicaly yeah, Angelgard for example makes you feel like you are alone in a snowy, dark and cold forest. (ok I went too far...), While post-rock or deftones for exemple gives you a warm feeling like you're sitting by the fireplace.

Wind & Wuthering by Genesis is the perfect winter prog album, in my opinion.
