Can we vote?
Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

If I understand well, dr wu's nomination was missing.

Now we are full but mathman must update the nomination table.

I'll post the quick round start on Monday, that's the day that Lorenzo indicated I should use.

Perhaps it's better to wait until Wednesday.

Lorenzo and I conferred, will post the Lightning Poll Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on how many have had a chance to vote.

I've been away. For some reason, I wasn't able to update the poll for dr wu's selection from my phone and needed to get back on computer. It should all be good. Let me know if I need to update anything else. Playlist is updated as well.

My podium:

1) The Hank Dogs – Let Go  hypnotic, icy folk piece, delicious.

2) Hood – The Cliff Edge Of Workaday Morality dissonant experimental piece with sinister atmosphere

3) Neville Brothers: Voodoo: piece on the edge between reggae and funky, with a very refined arrangement

-------------

Honorable Mentions:

4) R. Wainwright, M. Wainwright, A. McGarrigle – Mendocino : piano ballad, vocals and piano, melancholy and solemn, a kind of Schubert lieder, which tess the singer on the high notes-

5) The Screaming Trees – Halo of Ashes hard rock piece that combines melody and raga, I would also say prog

6) Weedpecker: Molecule long atmospheric song with a slow but good crescendo, reaching a nice climax, then emphasized until the end

7) Boards of Canada – Dayvan Cowboy instrumental piece with an atmosphere similiar to Molecule

8) The Swell Season – Low Rising pleasing rock ballad

9) Kings of Leon – Be Someone beautiful rock song with a great work on the drums.

Great Music here!

Grand Public's Prize: Admirals Hard – Whip Jamboree/Let The Bulgine Run melodic folk piece, pleasant ethnic dance

Grand Critic's Prize:  Gino Vannelli – The War Suite   10-minute suite with a neoclassical flavor, definitely a prog piece given its progressions and rhythm changes, the vocals arrive towards the end. Ambitious piece

Had these ready yesterday, but wasn't sure if voting was open yet or not.  Once again, brava and bravo to all who participated, to Mike for being the conductor, to George for playing the DJ, and to Lorenzo for the composition.  ClapClapClap The top 6 for me fought a brave battle and this is how it played out.

1.       Lorenzo:  Bruce Springsteen with The Sessions Band “Further on Up the Road”  This is how I like Bruce best, with an acoustic guitar.  Tin whistle, think I’m gonna like this one.  This is really beautiful, love the Celtic sound to it.  Fiddles, bodhrans, bunch of character voices, and all joining in unison.

2.       Christian:  Hood “The Cliff Edge of Workaday Morality”  Ooooh, nice kind of eerie beginning, right off the bat.  I have quite come to enjoy your selections, Christian, although I at first didn’t quite grasp some of it.  This is very spooky, spoken vocal with ghostly strings, repeating oooooooo and unexpected start-stops.  There is some kind of keyboard (accordion?  Effected keyboard?)  Haunting, sounds a bit like a tortured soul.  I like it

3.       Ronstein:  Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright & Anna McGarrigle “Mendocino”  This one speaks to me very strongly.  I spent all of my childhood summers just north of Mendocino on my great aunt’s ranch, which was paradise.  I knew Mendocino when it was truly just a little artist colony.  It remains one of my most loved places.  A beautiful paean.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS (The Battle for Top 3), in no particular order:

George: Screaming Trees “Halo of Ashes”

dr wu23:  Neville Brothers “Voodoo”

Cristi:  Weedpecker “Molecule”
