When the band released the opening track on YouTube, the somewhat anal online prog world went all a Twitter (groan) after Downes said that he had dug out some old demo tracks of his from the late seventies committed to tape and never heard of since that day. The prog detectives found out that the music on the tapes belonged to Mr Monkman, not Mr Downes.

Cue some embarrassing clarifications, apologies, and writing credit to Mr Monkman.

I do think that Downes made a genuine mistake as opposed to nicking the stuff, but I can’t imagine Obergruppenfuhrer Howe being terribly pleased with this “publicity”.

I found this amusing nonsense to be of far more interest than the album itself.

tragically comical, that well and truly puts this album in its place Embarrassed

I gave the album another listen last night. It's a bit worse the second time around, unfortunately. 2 stars seems about right for this bore, as I have no wish to ever listen to it again.

I have listened to the full album(on cd)once so far. I'm not quite sure what to think yet. It's not horrible but it will either have to really grow on me or I will have to consider it one of Yes's three or four weakest albums ever(which it might very well be). I liked the opening track a lot and there were a few other good moments(especially in the keyboard department and maybe in the guitar departement too)but not much really jumped out at me or grabbed me.

I listened to three tracks and sampled the rest and that was as far as I got. Not for me but then I haven't bought a Yes lp since Drama.

This is about where I'm at with it. I've given it 3 listens, and it's gotten worse each time (not that I liked it that much to start with). I'd still rank it above Open Your Eyes and Heaven & Earth, though; and probably a hair below Union.

I would disagree with you guys on this one, I found it to be a very good album, probably the best record yes has made since The Ladder. I think it is a step in a new direction for the band that I find quite enjoyable. Jon Davidson seems to be getting more confidence as a vocalist. It seems to me like he not trying as hard to sound like Jon Anderson and is actually getting a voice of his own. As well I find that the use of orchestral arrangements gives this album it’s own unique sound that is unlike any other Yes album. I know they have used orchestral arrangements before, but this time I think the way they used it was unique from their previous efforts. In my opinion I think this is a super high quality yes album, I would probably give it 4- 4.5 stars ⭐️. Excellent album in my view.

Your positive review was Music to My Ears after reading many of the negative comments on this thread.  Having crossed The Ice Bridge to embark on The Quest yesterday, you may Dare to Know that I regard this magnificent album as the best YES album ever and I'm in total agreement with your excellent review. The Quest is an album I definitely won't want to Leave Well Alone for the foreseeable future, as it's a superb album I can return to again and again. Yes, it's true that The Quest is Minus the Man Jon Anderson, but Jon Davison is one of the  finest singers in The Western Edge of the hemisphere and he sounds remarkably like Jon Anderson at times. It's so good to hear a Living Island of great music in the Damaged World we're living in and what a wonderful tribute to The Beatles in the magical Mystery Tour. This classic album is sure to live on in Future Memories of future generations.
A genuine 5-star masterpiece for sure! Star Star Star Star Star

Your warning sounds suspiciously like a quote from the beginning of Hawkwind's "Sonic Attack" Big smile

I'm giving it a good listen now, it is not as bad as I was led to believe.  Certainly better than "Heaven & Earth."

BTW, I was the one to suggest Jon Davison as a vocalist for Yes.  10 years ago.

^ Indeed it's better than Heaven & Earth... but that's not much of a compliment.

I doubt that very much.

I also feel McCartney and Starr may sue if they hear this "tribute".

We should all start the first class action suit against Yes for making this album LOL
The injunction would dictate that they must stop making music that is harmful to the ears Clown
