Sorry about that. Didn't have time to double-check as I was very late for preparing dinner for my kids (took quite a long time to do, but others would have done a better job, I'm sure). I got my C's confused, and meant to look up Chopper as I recall. My bad. Oh, even worse, I prepared the list in notepad originally, re-ordered, then copied it over here and made a mistake in the editing. I say worse because I spent many years working as a copy-editor. At least it provided some humour.

^ Is that going to be your nomination for the poll, MortSahlFan?
The poll is supposed to be going up later today, so final nominations (just one choice per person for the poll) should be in by now (see OP for details if that was missed). Right now with you it's between Curved Air - Lovechild, Illusion - Madonna Blue, and that Fairuz one. I suggested if no call is made then the first should be listed, so Curved Air - Lovechild in your case unless stated otherwise.

^ When are you now planning to put the poll up? Just wondering when final nominations must be in by.
I made a mistake earlier with the list, and I don't want to mislead others with any comments, such as what I told MortSahlFan about final nominations. No pressure, good of you to take this on with Lorenzo's unfortunate accident. I'm also thinking about when I should do my next poll (although overlap is okay, and I have suggested that we could have the nominations process in one poll overlapping with the voting in another poll). Not a big deal, but I'm going to be very busy later on next week and would rather still do it on Tuesday if people are okay with that. Guess this would be better suited to Team Thread discussion.

Anita Baker - Sweet Love, Gladys Knight - License to Kill 25: tigerfeet: Anneli Drecker - Morning Glory, Maura O'Connell -
First You Cry, Angel Snow - Coals And Water or an Annie Lennox? Once I hear back from these two, I will create the new poll for voting, hopefully not much longer.

^ Thanks Nickie. To think that even without the undecided that remain (a small number, mind you), that is one heck of a lot of entries and would have been a record (can't remember how many entries the last poll got, which was the biggest yet until this round).
Lovely that this, which was successful from the start, has been gaining this much steam a year or so after inception. What a series and what a journey. Geo's playlists have really helped, which was a great idea that added to Lorenzo's excellent idea, and of course the wonderful comments from those such as yourself make it really special. It works so well because it's an interactive team effort (those making the polls, commenting, voting, nominating, organising, discussing etc.) Worked beautifully -- I love the communal aspect of this, and camaraderie it engenders.

First listen on the last two I'd not yet heard:
Dark Ness: Des'Re “I'm Kissing
You” Another wow vocalist here. Simple piano accompaniment, later joined with an
orchestral underpinning that gradually grows audibly. Very emotive love song. A lightness comes in on the instrumental
break near the end, with a crescendo as the vocal rejoins in the mix. The song
ends as it began, simply. Simply lovely. MortSahlFan: Fairuz “Al Bosta” An electronic sort of modern sound with some jazz flourishes, along with a Middle Eastern vocal. There are touches of traditional Oriental orchestra, along with then, an electric band backing her, still bordering into jazz-rock, with a horn section as well. Flute-y, disco-y portion begins, with the sound of zils, much like if you were watching a belly dance performance, but electrified. Female chorus starts up (I can see a village/folk/line dance happening about halfway in) and horn section echoes the sound of mizmars, then back to the flute-y disco-y sound. Quite the journey! |

@ Snicolette Very well said! I've always wondered why there are so few ladies in these music forums, no matter what genre. Now we have a possible explanation! |

Where will I find the new poll, on the Prog Polls page? If that is of any interest, I will be creating a youtube playlist. I could easily post it in the thread or give you the link so you could include it in your post? A playlist on spotify would be another option.

The new poll will show up in this same sub-forum (other music related lounges/general music discussions), these are usually non-prog related, although the person in charge of the individual poll can decide to allow artists listed in ProgArchives, it will be noted in the rules. They typically have the "Interactive Poll," descriptor. Thank you for the offer, perhaps you and mathman0806 would like to get together on this, he typically does two YT playlists, one of all of the entries and one of just the nominations. He may sometimes need/want a break, but that would be between you two. He does post a link to his playlists in the threads of each individual poll. |

youtube playlists are fine. As for spotifry, not everyone uses it (i.e. I don't), don't worry about it.

Thank you for the info! The site is quite complex and a bit confusing for a newbie. I will have a closer look on the weekend. As for the playlists, I have not yet had the chance to talk to mathman. But I guess that I should get more familiar with the forum first and the rest will surely follow. |
