This thread is mislabled; it should just be "Your unpopular prog preferences", lol.

Pestilence "Spheres" is one of my favorite tech prog albums, and almost nobody on here, let alone in general, gives a sh*t about that one! I've been obsessed since like 2007 lol.

My favorite PFM song is a synth pop song from 1984.

Yeah Steve...What’s the name of the track? I’m intrigued
My fave PFM track is Via Lumiere.

I promised not to laugh and kept my promise...but I smiled big time and started to dance with wavering jazz hands and swift Travolta tiptoes.
That was great, thanks Steve

Edith: this actually prompted med to order some 80s PFM. I had never really thought about it before, and if this track is anything to go by, then I’ll most likely dig it.

Great! Please let me know how it is. I have this track on a 2 CD PFM compilation album but have not heard a whole album. I did just recently buy “Suonare Suonare” (1980) and absolutely love it.

Now THAT is an embarrassing prog secret!

Mine is far worse - I once owned all the albums by Sky, and worse, still have one of them..

The first Sky album, I hope.

I think Love Beach is a decent (NOT great, barely “good”) album, and I enjoy playing it occasionally. I do think the album cover is pretty laughable, but no worse than, say, Seals & Crofts or Orleans or stuff like that. It fit the times.

Well I seem to have a fairly good track record with prog artists turning pop in the 80s - here I’m specifically thinking Genesis but also a somewhat unknown Andalusian act called Itoiz. Their album Alkolea is a brilliant slice of 80s tinged art pop/rock.
All in all...the 80s sound much better today than they did in the 80s
Btw here’s a track off Alkolea: https://youtu.be/eNko_FgHluI

That most of the time I don't (or can't) consciously differentiate between all of the genres and sub genres.
I just like what I like...

However, I've just re-read a bunch of my past reviews and there I am bandying about with every genre I can seem to think of.
Gosh, I'm such a pseudo intellectual poseur!

And, it's even worse for me over at our sister site metalmusicarchives where we find:
Brutal, Growling, Viking, Death, Grindcore, Slavic, Folk, With a nod towards Buck Owens and Roy Clark of Hee Haw fame, Progressive, Nu, War Metal with a cup of Tea and a Lemon Twist.
Okay, I'm being facetious, there's no such thing as Viking Wink LOL!!!

Find new musicians that have been around for years and. I’d never heard of them.

I completely relate to this; hell, it's even happened for classic 70s prog bands. I didn't do a full deep dive into Genesis' work until 2020, and I was kicking myself for not doing so earlier LOL only two years later and now they're one of my all-time favorite bands

But I guess my situation is a bit different, since obviously I already knew Genesis before then

Won't you take me down, to the underground
Why oh why, there is no light
And if I can't sleep, can you hold my life
